Me and my fiance are looking for work in wyoming or montana. She will probably find a desk job somewhere unless someone is looking for a nanny or cook/housekeeper. I have been handling cattle and horses all my 23 years and have good refrences if needed. Would love to find someplace with housing for us two and our upcoming baby but it is not required. She is really handy with a horse and cattle also but won't be able to do to much until after the baby comes in May. I love working cattle and its what I want to do. I'm currently trying to start my heard of bucking stock but that can take a back seat for a while. I like to ride bulls and rope and just doing cowboy/ranch type work anytime I can. I forgot, I also have my own truck that can pull any trailer and will actually be buying myself a stock trailer as soon as I can and I have no problem using my vehicle for ranch work. Thanks

Heath, I am not going to be helpful to you up in Alberta but I was curious what you would or could expect to be paid for ranch work. Would you be interested in perks such as being able to run some stock, etc. It is always helpful to know what makes potential workers satisfied and happy.
 
I'll keep my ears open :D . My advice to you going in to this sort of deal, is that your wife's help and your equipment shouldn't be part of the deal unless your wife is agreeable to the work AND is compensated... she's not a work animal afterall. Also you must receive reimbursment for use of your vehicle if you agree to the ranch using it. The right employer would never impose on you, and you need not lower your value by offering up these things for free... or for a reduced price :wink:

I couldn't agree with Wyoming Rancher more. Also, a wife and new baby are a really big responsibility....and too many young men ended up in tough shape last year from bullriding. One locally, with a young family, now disabled, with huge medical bills. Be careful now. Good luck.

actually being able to run a few of my own cattle work be a huge perk, problem is most ranchers wouldn't want bucking stock being run so close to their herd. most ranch jobs that i have seen come with housing then they pay from 8 to 10 bucks an hour which if your living for free is pretty good money. right now riding bulls is they only way our bills are getting paid. dont really like it with a baby coming up, i have been riding really good but i can fall into a slump anytime like anyone else and go a month without making a dime and that would be tough on the baby. thank yall for your help. like i said if you hear of anything holler at me. and i'll check out bartlett ranch.

With a baby on the way......get away from them bulls and bucking stock and go find you a 9-5 job somewhere.

You need security now, that baby deserves to have you 'upright and alright' and not broken up from a wild azzed bull.

You can always go back to it as you are young.....be smart and safe right now and considerate of that young wife and baby......they need you.

Once she has that baby, that will be her full time job so she won't have time to help you with colts or cattle AND tend to the baby and you and the house, etc.

It may not and prob won't be the ' dream job' you want....but it will pay the bills.

Ok....stepping off the soapbox now!! :lol:
 
I agree with Kola,get a job where your health won't jepordize your young family.Check the Capital Press website,it has a lot of jobs in Oregon,California,Idaho,And Nevada,if you're open to the west.Lots of ranch hand jobs on outfits with housing,company truck,a beef a year,some with health insurance a real perk if there ever was one.Lots of ranch publications with job listings and it's calving time so they need help right now.Good luck kiddo :wink: .
