Anyone with experience on Connealy Danny Boy or Rito 2x15???

I asked this question on a couple of other sites i go on so i thought i would ask here as well- does any one have any experience with connealy Danny Boy or sons of his? I am thinking of using the new son of his they have at select sires this year on some heifers-Danny 5398- reg.#15150630

Any thoughts on disposition, structure or other issues.

We have been having pretty good luck with Rito 2x15 on heifers and have a bunch of those coming this year- i have heard great reports on udder quality and first hand about the good growth and thickness and structure. But I am a little concerned about using him too much and taking a chance on haveing a bunch of heifers with bad dispositions. the EXT and california traveler in his pedigree scares me as i have heard bad reports on both of there dispostions. Although his sire- Expectation- i have not heard any bad reports on.

Yep- I couldn't get the last California Traveller son I had out of here fast enough....Tried going thru a 7 rail corral to eat me- I backed up the trailer- saddled up the horse and once I got him lined out for the trailer we never slowed up.... Hauled him to the salebarn even tho it was a couple days before the sale....

Nice calves by him, but he was one that came hunting...
 
The Danny Boy cattle are pretty good. They are real small at birth but get up real well. Bred some commercial heifers to him last spring and they are just having them now. I like them so far, we'll see what they do.

Theres a guy north of me that has used him for the last three years and they cross real good on his cattle. The bulls have tons of length and are pretty decent for muscle, this guy has some real muscular cows, so I think that helps. His Danny Boy heifers should start calving in February and can get an update then.

Personally, I don't like many of the Rito cattle, they work for some people, but I haven't seen anythin "lately" that really turns my crank. CA Traveler is a pretty good bull in himself, but they do get to acting like crazed orangatangs sometimes!
 
well i know the Rito 2x15 calves are very good as far as growth and thickness- but i won't really know about disposition until my first heifer out of him calves and she isn't even bred yet- so thats why i don't know if i should breed too heavy to him. Danny 5398 is really the only other heifer bull in select sires lineup that excites me at all because of a different pedigree and i have heard good things about his muscleing and structure from someone that actually saw him at the stud. most of the other heifer bulls in their lineup are heavily bred to precision and new design. And i have heard bad things about fertility on the precision cattle.
 
farmerD44: From what I have heard about Connealy Dannyboy you don't have to worry about his daughters being mean when they calve as his sons are plenty a handful as yearlings. Again I don't have any first hand knowledge but it came from people I trust. FWIW I don't plan on aquiring any first hand knowledge either.

but how many generations does poor disposition carry through- it seems like half the bulls these days have EXT in the pedigree somewhere- i don't think people would use them if they all had bad dispositions.

I may have to order a Genex catalog and see what they have to offer- they seem to have a wider variety by looking at whats on their website.
 
FArmerD, you should get a catalog from all the studs, ABS, Accelerated, Genex, etc. There are alot of bulls out there to use, don't get hung up on one stud company. I sell for Accelerated, but use alot of Genex and Abs semen also.

EXT has a bad rapsheet when it comes to disposition. He is a great cow producing sire. They have alot of good qualities about them that will help any herd. There are plenty of other bloodlines that have just as bad of disposition. I've had bad ones out of Dividend 963, 5175, 6807, etc., so you can't be afraid to experiment. Sometimes a gentle old milkcow disposition can cause problems also.

I would not get too hung up on it, I have seen several dog gentle EXT's. It's hard to tell what is going to pop up within a breeding program. But don't not try a bull just because he has EXT in the pedigree. Personally, I think it comes more from EXT's sire 5522 than from EXT himself, that's just my thought though. I have some 5522's and they make you wonder when you process the calf, but they have never caused any damage or pain.
 
well we don't use much semen in a year so we have been sticking with select as that is always what we have used and they are who keeps our tank serviced. we only use about 20 sticks a year maximum. we Ai all the heifers and a few cows each year. We have been trying to raise some decent purebred angus for replacements but are about ready to give up and just raise all sim-angus as they are way better then the purebreds we have had so far- but we have only had purebreds 2 seasons so far.

the excellant 2x15 calves we have had were from simmy cross heifers. Had poor performance from yield grade and 5050 on purebred angus cows. we have a few coming from Gridmaker this year and a few sim-angus from CCR Vision. Can't wait to see how they turn out.
