I took a vanilla cake mix and dumped in 1/4 cup of mayo (actual mayo cuz I had no eggs) 1/4 tsp of pumpkin pie spice and 2 cups of apple sauce. Cooked as per box instructions and man was it good! When it cooled I served it with applesauce on the top and whipped cream . Tasty little snack :)Man I hope the snowplows get down here soon. Once you start experimenting things can get out of hand :)

I guess that explains why you have no eggs  You killed all your chickens

Just kidding, sounds like something to add to the recipe thread, I'll put it there :D

The chickens were roos :D and these dumb cornish/cross thingies arent egg layers anyhow :)I'll never get this type of chick again though lost about a third of them to deformities of one type or another. They grow out too fast. They kept developing a weird watery looking sac on the breast area and then they would keel over dead.....I'm going back to the australorps, much nicer bird all around. Still debating on a couple turkeys for next year. I havent raised them before....

They are like sheep-they can drop over dead if you just look at them wrong

Are the wild ones good eating? I know alot of people like them but I have never even seen one let alone eaten one :)

Dometic Turkeys.. We have done them a few times.. Amazing the ways they find to kill themselves.. I say they are worse than sheep as sheep are just waiting to die when looked at funny while turkeys are actively looking for ways to kill themselves.... Everytime I think we have it figured out and we get past the danger zone they find another way.. Pains in the butts.

We raised a couple of hundred wild turkey chicks one year- and they did a lot better- the survivability rate was much higher than the domestic ones we'd raised--don't know if it was the difference in birds or just a lucky year...But we had a hard time keeping them contained and eventually they all flew away- which was OK because thats what we had planned to do with them anyway- but never got to eat even one

This was 10 years ago- and it definitely increased the wild turkey population around here, as there have been times in the last couple years where I have seen flocks of 50-60-70 in a flock........

My in-laws used to raise turkeys and the story goes that they had water boiling on a stove in the shed. The turkeys would fly up on the stove and try to stand there. When their feet got hot, they'd pick one up to cool it off and then change feet. Stupid birds, they are.
