I would gladly trade some of this bare ground for a foot or two of snow. The dry weather has made for great calving though :D .

Newborns trailing out to the big group.

The heifers are producing nice calves out of some Mytty in Focus sired bulls.

Last year I never could get caught up, this spring I'm ahead of schedule.

The new Balancers bulls :D
Winter162.jpg

Two other Balancers which were too cheap not to bring home  . Since I'd rather not take old bulls to the forest, these guys will come in handy .

I was very impressed with the females these bulls came from, and I've not ever seen udders as nice in a herd... the breeder told me he scored teats at birth... so you can all guess what I've been scoring on the heifer calves this spring  . (I'm sorry, this is almost as bad as Keren's goat pictures).

We took a trip to see last year's calves. Most of the black steers without an ear notch were ours. They've done well, and after the past few years, am happy the feedlot should make good money on them. My only regret is that we didn't keep all of the heifers :? .

Remember this calf from last year out of the neighbor's bull? I wish they'd send him up the creek again!

The heifers received their first round of pre-breeding vaccinations. If you look carefully, you'll see the 941 heifer on the left side of the pic. This photo was taken 15 minutes after we got done... she looks healthy and happy to me. She was dead a day and a half later... I think she had a delayed reaction to the vaccine, so the company has offered to post her at their cost.

Maybe some moisture will fall from here again someday soon!

You can have our snow WR
I have mine all in a paddock to start AI'ing them as soon as hubbies cast comes off , and what a mud bowl that is turning into with the snow and melt . :???: Hopefully we can get as many as possible AI'd in the next 2 weeks and then kick them out .

Like your new balancers , would like them even better if they were red. :P

Nice cattle and good looking calves thanks for sharing. :)

Ranchers will never be happy, some want moisture while others pray for dry ground.
I'll gladly load all you want to haul WR.

Your cattle look excellent, there is no stopping a growing calf when good husbandry is in effect.

Cattle look really good those steers got my mouth watering for a T bone :). You can have all of our snow, rain we got an inch and a half of rain then six inches of snow on top of that flooding every where around us.

Beautiful country! Love the pic with the magpie in the tree. Looks like a pro shot it!

Thanks! Any decent picture I take with this new camera is purely accidental. I'm always cutting off feet, legs, or heads! I miss my viewfinder :? :-) .

Strawking, sorry, but I can't disclose my top secret bull source  . They just don't sell enough bulls to share. I see you're in Nebraska, have you checked out Taubenheim Gelbvieh? They look like decent cattle.

Nicky, Pete is doing good :D. So far he hasn't chewed up anything he isn't supposed to, and is turning into a good feeding/fence repairing pup .

WR, great post as usual!

Glad to hear you are ahead of schedule. The only way I ever get the sense of being ahead is from being so far behind I think I'm ahead. :)

Everything looks great , calves and the new bulls.

Good Job! :D

so what all does he score on teats for newborns - i've alway made sure there was only four... any more and they are automatically a feeder.

He ideally wants ones the size of a pencil eraser. I'm not that picky, or have the ability to cull like that, but found it interesting. When he showed us the cowherd, I said to myself, "I want those cows in my herd", so I hope these bulls will produce good females for me :D .

Forgot to say...since you are so far ahead why don't you come out for about a month and help us get caught up!!! And if you could be here fri morning so much the better, we are branding fri and sat...hopefully.

I'd love to fly out, BUT we plan on branding Saturday too :D.
