I would gladly trade some of this bare ground for a foot or two of snow. The dry weather has made for great calving though
.
Newborns trailing out to the big group.
The heifers are producing nice calves out of some Mytty in Focus sired bulls.
Last year I never could get caught up, this spring I'm ahead of schedule.
The new Balancers bulls
Two other Balancers which were too cheap not to bring home  . Since I'd rather not take old bulls to the forest, these guys will come in handy .
I was very impressed with the females these bulls came from, and I've not ever seen udders as nice in a herd... the breeder told me he scored teats at birth... so you can all guess what I've been scoring on the heifer calves this spring  . (I'm sorry, this is almost as bad as Keren's goat pictures).
We took a trip to see last year's calves. Most of the black steers without an ear notch were ours. They've done well, and after the past few years, am happy the feedlot should make good money on them. My only regret is that we didn't keep all of the heifers :? .
Remember this calf from last year out of the neighbor's bull? I wish they'd send him up the creek again!
The heifers received their first round of pre-breeding vaccinations. If you look carefully, you'll see the 941 heifer on the left side of the pic. This photo was taken 15 minutes after we got done... she looks healthy and happy to me. She was dead a day and a half later... I think she had a delayed reaction to the vaccine, so the company has offered to post her at their cost.
Recently a little snow came this way
.
Maybe some moisture will fall from here again someday soon!
