In South Dakota, the tank has to be ten feet from the well. We need to put up cribbing before allowing cattle to be in the pasture.

Awesome pics as always, Soapweed!! Your pics are the main reason I visit this page...What's the reason for "10 feet" from the tank in SD ?

Is the acupuncture helping your leg, Soap? Nice to see you are out raking. Do you have a lot of 'hoppers?

Your calves look like short yearlings!! They have summered well!

Thanks for the pictures! I don't think there is much your family can't do or participate in, is there? What a great way to live. :D

Thanks, nd. Probably the only reason for the "10 feet" law, is for some bureaucrat to justify his existence and try to act like he has made a monumental decision.

In all honesty, our family doesn't much enjoy ball games of any kind. My sons almost dislike ball games more than I do. For what it is worth. They do like golf and bowling. :)

It's too early to tell on the acupuncture. We have a lot of grasshoppers, but they are finally going away or dying off. The rains have kept plenty of grass growing for both the cattle and the 'hoppers. We got a nice six tenths of an inch of rain last evening, bringing our summer total up to over 16 inches of beautifully timed rains.

In the 1950s I used to spend summers on my Uncles farm. They built a concrete tank ( about 12' diameter and 3' deep ) with the well right in the middle and the windmill legs bolted to the tank.

As a youngster I loved that it was fenced so that animals could drink from 4 different lots and he kept fish in it and we would get in on hot days baling hay.

I thought it was a great system!

Hey, Soapweed. I and the hubby passed through your neck of the woods yesterday. Just wanted to say hi. Sitting in Norfolk right now, we're taking in Thunder by the River. We don't have tractor pulling in Saskatchewan like there is down here.

Great to hear your "voice" again, Shelly. We have missed you. Swing by on your way back through, if there is time. I will P.M. my cell number to you. Keep posting. You have always been a big part of the Ranchers.net family. :)

Thanks for your phone number. I actually just got your pm yesterday afternoon and we're already home. Maybe next time, we seem to go to or through Nebraska once or twice a year. Pretty state, btw. Very different from what I think of when I think of Nebraska.
