One of our local reffs- by far the best in the league -got attacked by a player in a nonsanctioned native tournament on Sunday. Severe concussion and had to be taken by ambulance to hospital in the city. I guess he got crosschecked from behind after a disputed call. The guy that did it is 21 but there should be a lifetime ban for stuff like that. Hopefully they press charges on him-I don't always agree with the reffs but they have to be treated with respect. I sure hope my friend keeps effing because he was one of the good ones for sure-tough but fair.

Some people are just ignorant! It a game for heaven sake  I'm fairly sure the young lad who attacked the ref. will experience a "behind the barn" discussion about his behavior.

Oh man thats awful...hopefully all works out ,your friend keeps reffing, and the young man is charged with assault,he needs to realise this cannot happen :!:

The anger inside so many young people these days is appalling.I don't know if it is because society is to lenient or if it is drugs or what, but it is getting worse.....I too hope your friend makes a full recovery.....

21 isn't a young lad any more... 14 is a young lad.. 21 should be serving jail time and baned for life. I get so tired of hearing about these, I think I remember hering of a softball being chucked at an umps head recently because of a "blown" call. I will be the first to admit that I have lost my temper from time to time but never have I even come close to doing something so reckless and stupid.. Actually had a basebal coach in a practice try to tick me off to the point where I would shove or something but it wasn't going to happen.. Not in my character.

It's all over the TV and papers up here-I guess he sticked him them punched the crap out of him on the ice. The guy fled the scene and the Mounties are out looking for him now.

Well all sorts of rumours floating around about how bad he is hurt-one guy told me they found a brain tumour when they were checking him out-would be strange if the pummelling ended up saving his life. We didn't always see eye to eye on the ice but he is a good referee I just hope that he sticks with it.

yeah he's not doing bad but they did find a tumour-hopedfully not a bad one.
I just read this on sympatico news...looks like him and his family are thinking this may have saved his life.

Gregs dad always would go down to river pasture to check our cattle,he'd go alone and not tell anyone :? One eve,MIL called me over...FIL had fallen down an embankment, hurt himself pretty bad, crawled up the bank, walked to his truck and drove home the 20 miles, when I got there he was white as sheet and really in alot of pain...long story short he was sent to Edmonton to have MRI because couldn't figure out where the pain was coming from....turned out he had kidney cancer which prob would not have been found if it wasn't for the fall....we were all Thankful he had fallen, had the kidney removed,a couple chemo treatments and lived another ten years until he passed away from massive heart attack.Weird how things work out sometimes

It's really a bizarre deal for sure-Dale's a good guy-we've can have words on the ice but walk out of the rink together. Sounds like the young guy was on something when he did it-sad case really.
