Bad Deal

I agree. That's terrible!

And bizarre too. Just think, every morning this guy probably went out and worked all day around calving cows, bulls, and whatever may be dangerous around the ranch. And then to get hit in a parking lot? Just goes to show, you never know what can happen to you when you leave the yard. :?

There was close call at a bull sale last year-a bull tried to jump through the cables and hit a young guy. Lucky he was looking at his catalogue and the bull hit him with his nose-I think if they'd went head to head it wouldn't of been good. I don't miss working the crazies at the sale barn a bit.

Three weeks ago, the son of a friend of mine needed $12,000 worth of dental work when a steer smashed into the gate he was working and put it into his teeth . . .

Had a brother visiting here from the west coast last week and we were sorting back some calves that had broke out (who didn't chain that danged gate right, huh?) and mixed in with the cows.

We were down to the last one or two and they are always the snakier ones. A 750 wgt. steer calf decided to make a break for it and went through both my sons and I. My brother was running the sort gate and tried to head him off.

I could see disaster in the making.

At the last second with the calf about 3 feet in front of him and doing a hundred, bro twists down and away and the calf jumped clear over him.

All's well . . .

Quite a few years ago, in the old sale barn at Valentine, a bull jumped out of the ring and into the crowd. Everyone quickly evacuated, and I don't recall that anyone was hurt. (I wasn't there, but my dad was.) The bull bumbled its way to the top row of bleachers, where it broke a rafter. Eventually the bull was coerced into going back into the ring through the pedestrian gate. When the dust all settled and the commotion died down, it was determined that was the "highest" bull ever sold through the Valentine Livestock Auction.

One knocked me through a steel gate from behind-hit me right in the middle of the back-I was sorting and never heard her coming. She was kind enough to grind me down the alley a bit too-that was a long day finishing up the rest of the sale. The older I get the more chicken I am lol.

Chicken? Or wiser.....................

Our local auction mart is having trouble finding experienced workers, and they're bringing in town boys to do the job. A few weeks ago one got kicked square in the face by a calf, and it put his lights out. They hauled him off in an ambulance, but we haven't found out yet how he is. I suspect he's not working there any more.
