Yesterday afternoon a tornado hit Goderich, a small town 1/2 hour west of us on Lake Huron. One man, a worker at the Sifto Salt mine, was killed and around 50 injured.

Tremendous destruction. The building in the first picture in the link below is the Park House restaurant, one of my favorite spots to eat over there. It is typical of the large, old buildings that give Goderich its unique, historical flavor.

Back in '95 we went over for a couple of days with chainsaws to help clean up after another bad storm came in off the Lake, but this time it's gonna take a little longer.

We got about 2.5 inches of rain out of it but there wasn't any hint of the kind of weather they got less than 30 miles away. (Our mini-drought is over!)

That is also pretty close to where my Mom grew up.

Oh my goodness, My son and I just got back from helping cut up downed trees.

What a mess. A swath through the town where the buildings just exploded, it looks like.

They're gonna be a long time cleaning up and rebuilding. Lots of roofs gone and some holes where there was formerly a building standing. Power lines all snapped off for a couple of blocks wide and right from one side of town to the other.

The salt mine infrastructure took an awful hit. Not sure what that means for the salt supply for Ontario's roads this winter.
