bad story turned good

From my other post, you know i had an older cow go down. We ended up taking the calf. I really wasnt expecting it to be far enough along and survive. Well we got the calf out and got him breathing and doing good. It was a good 2 minutes and the vet decided to check for another calf. Sure enough, this cow had twins. We got the 2nd calf out and was having problems with it starting to breathe. It had a good heart beat but couldnt get it started. Worked on him for 5 minutes or so and got him breatheing. It was the most amazing thing ive seen. This old cow went out with leaving me twins, 2 calves to use if i need to on some other cows. From the situation it couldnt have worked out better.
 
nope, but it did cross my mind :) ....He was taking a big breath about every 30 seconds. So i kinda thought he was going to come around. It was pretty amazing
 
I was just curious because I did one of those emergency C-sections last year. The calf had a heart beat but I couldn't get him to breathe so in desperation I did blow into him. It still didn't work. I guess my CPR card must have been expired......
 
Sometimes things just work out...Thursday morning Grandma checked the heifers at 6AM- and told me that she thought one of the Juanada heifers was going to calve altho nothing was showing or happening right then...

I usually go out to do chores around 8:30- but because I had a doings to attend later that day- started early and went out at 8...I just walked out the barn door and noticed the heifer laying there on her side- and as I looked- the calf squirted out- backwards-- and with the sack over its head...I was able to get the sack off- baby started breathing and by that time the little momma was able to get her feet back under her and get up and finish the job licking off her 81 lb baby bull..

i was pretty worried he wasnt gonna make it beings he was in there for 2 minutes or so...we did pretty much everything besides blow in his mouth...we rubbed him and pushed on his belly...swung him upside down....stuck a piece of hay in his nostril...i worked on him while the vet ran to his pickup and got a shot to give him in his mouth to help stimulate his breathing....by the time he got back i had him taking breath about every 15 seconds...just by sticking the stick in his nostril...every time i did it he would take a deep breath...vet got back and give him that shot to help him start breathing and within 30 seconds he was breathing pretty good...i dont think we would have saved him if it wasnt for both of us being there and acting quickly
