I can buy a 2003 Besler bed cash & carry for 4500 dollars. Has anybody used one of these can you tell me the good and the bad of these. Thanks

Good beds- I've got one older than that and had little problem with it...About the worse problem I've had is the switchs freezing up, or snapping a hydraulic line at 30 Below...
Since I don't have a heated shop-- I just stick a magnetic oilpan heater on the hydraulic tank and plug in on the cold days...Sure makes the fluid move easier...

Personally, I prefer a Hydrabed a little over a Deweze. And they are both way ahead of a Bessler. We have had or currently have all of the above. Whatever you do, get the hydraulic pump on the engine. The electric ones are not satisfactory.

I was of the opinion that the engine driven units get over reved, and blow up, that is why they went to the electric ones... you can drive down the road at 60 mph and lower the electric ones, but the engine driven units need to be idled...
at least that was the reasoning behind my dew eze pump screwing up 9 according to the mechanic)

We have two beslers and are happy with them. They are slower than the hydrabed, but IMO are heavier built. I like the electric over hydraulic, they would be easier to put on a different pickup and I like how the arms are above the bed. Some probably don't like that, to each their own. The Beslers are tough.

We have three Hydra-beds and like them very much. My welder son even put a three-inch lip around the bed on one of them, including the arms. This is an improvement because when it is used as a flatbed stuff doesn't fall off. The endgate even stays in place when the arms are upside down, and it comes out if necessary.

I have a Krogman bale bed that works pretty well. It seems to be pretty Heavy Duty and looks nice. The only complaint that I have is the way it was mounted. It was mounted level, so when you drive down the road with a trailer on, stuff shifts to the back. When you have it mounted or mount it yourself make sure that you drop it to the front so that things move toward the cab.

We have a Besler with the engine driven pump, it's worked good for us. I put a magnetic heater on the oil tank like Oldtimer. That will help any brand when it gets cold.

Without trying to start a fight I would have to strongly disagree with you, MO STOCKER, while I would agree that a Hydrabed is better than a Besler there is no way a Dew-EZe is way better than a Besler, period. I have had three Besler live hydraulic beds and the only reason we got rid of them was that they outlasted the pickup. I do agree live hydraulic are the only way to go. I turn the pump on when the pickup is running under 2000 rpms and never had any trouble. I also have a heated shop so the oil never has a chance to get super cold.
