I don't know if I have ever baled dry hay before in October. Baled some straight grass 2nd cut for the neighbor and it went about 3 - 4x5's per acre and my alfalfa/grass mix 3rd cut went about 2 bales/ac.

His grass was crispy dry but mine was just a touch higher in moisture than I like because of the alfalfa in it but it'll be good. We had 7 consecutive days of sun, low humidity and highs of 18C. Mighta been a first for this year!

I think I'm done haying for this year!

I baled a 109 5x6 bales on thursday evening and friday. Were chopping corn all weekend and all week corn is drying out fast in this warm dry weather. If the sun holds the meadows are getting dry enough I maybe able to get another 200 bales made. You can't have too much feed on hand.

We are cutting and hopefully baling the last of our 1st cut today. :D
Swath grazing is down, corn is up, and we have several hundred bales of dry hay that we may not even feed this winter. The last 10 days has been the longest stretch of sunshine in over 8 months.
