Just bought this 3 yr. old Jersey x Angus heifer. The guy was selling her because she was way past her due date and had not been exposed to any other bull(s).
I had looked at her a month ago as something to turn in with my yearling bull so he would have company between now and May when he can be turned in with the cows.
When I first looked at her a month ago there did not appear to be any udder development. When I picked her up today she appears to have some udder development.
Would a barren heifer look this or is she carrying a calf ? I realize she is a bit fat, but any barren/freemartin heifers I was ever around did not look quite like she does.
My cows will calve within the next week to four weeks. The heifer looks like she might fit right into that time frame.

We had a hfr bred before turn out and the vet caught it at preg checking and told us she would calve in January.
We kept her up close so we could keep an eye on her. I told Britt I thought she was showing a little bit of bag but she was showing nothing behind.
I was gone to dentist on January 2nd and Britt called she went to feed at the bunk and the hfr didn't want to leave bale feeder, Sure enough she has a nice little hfr calf she i she walked them down to the barn and a box stall for a few days.
Seems with hfrs the signs aren't always real obvious.
