Looking thru Basin Angus bull sale catalog, anybody got any thought's on them or their bulls. How have they sold in the past ? thanks
 
Only thing I know about their operation is the RFD program on them a couple years ago. I do know Boyds New Day 8005 has made some of the best cows I own. Stevensons owns him, of course he was bred by Boyds of Kentucky.

I have son's of Sitz Alliance 6595,BT Direction, AAR Really Windy,Conneally Freightliner,OCC Echelon,OCC Hunter plus calves sired by our own herd bull's. Look's like we will have 20 to 30 bulls for sale this spring. Still trying to decide if they should just sell private treaty or the sale again it's a tough deal selling bull's.


As far as Basin go's I've no Idea one way or the other. Shane Whiteman is a heck of a nice fella he's set at my table before.We served him pork chop's. :wink:
 
I think i remember hearing about stevenson's death, do you remember if it was random or target'ed
 
I don't think Stevenson's would be around as long as they have or sold as many bulls as they do if they weren't doing something right, call Doug or Shane, I'm sure they'd be more than glad to speak to you about any questions you may have.
 
I was pretty good friends with Wayne Stevenson-in fact I was on my way to visit there the night he got killed-we got held up at home and I left a message with his son Doug that I'd catch his Dad on the way back. I was on my way to Missoula where Doug had some Red Angus bulls selling. Doug never showed up at his sale and John Robbins told me they thought Wayne had been kidnapped. It turned out he was shot by one of the hired men-who had an outstanding warrant from Texas I think. He'd hid out in Montana for years. Wayne was a good cowman and as honest as they come-if he had used a bull that didn't work he'd tell you. I still remember him telling me that AAR Maverick would dry up a holstein. I also remember driving into a pasture of probably a 100 or more first calf heifers that were all half sisters. All that being said-you can probably spend your dollars just as wisely at Denny's he's using some very good bulls in his herd. The Freightliner's especially have worked well up here.
 
Yeah I remember that day,(sigh). A lot of really mad ranchers.
The guy who did it is also dead. He died in the state prison. He did escape once, but they got him behind bars right quick. Nothing was said about the escape until after they caught him.
Good riddance to bad rubbish.

The story I heard the man that killed Wayne buried him with the front end loader in a manure pile. They found Wayne glasses first. Sad deal the fellow that told me that had just bought a darn good bull from him that year. Wish I would of asked the bloodline of the bull that year.
The man that killed Wayne did not want to give him his ID or social security number or gave them a phony one something like that.

Stevenson Genetics bull sale in on channel 221 this afternoon. Lot 132 ish?
11,000 an In Focus with light bw was the top when I was watching
 
They're good people with good stock and I've never know them NOT to stand behind what they sell.

I was buying bulls from Dale Fellman at the time. He was a friend of Wayne's. Wayne had put a bull in a pen for Dale and in the ruckus the bull was forgot about for a few days. He was in kinda rough shape when he was discovered but Dale went on to get him and I eventually bought a son of him a Basin Emulation son.
I heard at the time that they turned Wayne's horse loose and it went to the manure pile and started pawing. That's where he was buried.

you're right about Shane Denny, they don't come much better than him...
 
The guy shot him then buried him there and called in a ransom demand-that brought the FBI into it and they caught him pretty much right away. Pretty hard deal for any outfit to recover from.
 
I have a good friend that hauled a couple Welker cake bins up to the Stevenson Ranch about a week before this happened. It was a bitter cold day, and my friend called out to the ranch from the nearest town. Mr. Stevenson said they had just finished feeding and were ready to eat dinner, so they invited him to eat with them. Wayne, his wife, the hired man, and my friend all dined together before unloading the cake bins. Just a few days later, Wayne Stevenson was killed by the same ranch hand that had been at the dinner table that day.
 
I'm mot sure, but I dont' think they ever came up with a reason for
the guy killing Wayne. Not that there ever is a real reason, but they usually come up with something.

I always heard Wayne was the PR man for Stevenson's and was a real
genuine guy. Lots of sad folks when that all happened. I hadn't heard the
story of the horse fiinding him.

Small world........met Shane just after he finished high school.....nice young guy............his step dad told me he was at Stevenson's now. He'll do well wherever he hangs his hat!

About 40 miles away.............have known the family forever......buy some of my black bulls there. Your hubby worked at N bar? Bear Creek?? or is he a fitter?? Amazing how the Yanks & Canucks in the PB world cross paths. Altho I guess I don't have to tell you anything about that :D
