I see they really are dispersing-I always liked Wayne he had time to talk cows even with this hick from the sticks. I haven't been down there for a visit in quite awhile but it was tough for Doug to carry on after losing his Dad the way he did. Sad to see an outfit like that go they raised alot of good cattle over the years.

The information is on their web site. 12 mil for 12,000 acres. Finding someone with the money it will sell for that. The tree huggers here pay more than that to take the land out of production and let it go back to nature.

I think I am gonna tell Pam Minnick and her crew to keep on goin. When she shows up to do a piece on my ranch. Isn't this 2 places in less than a year giving it up, after they were profiled on American Rancher???

Do they tax you guys south of the 49 on farm buildings? The county here made mention of starting to tax us for each farm outbuilding and/or structure, and people went nuts. Started writing letters and threatening councillors with petitions and such. Don't know what'll happen, but I know what I'll do to stop it. Sometimes you just gotta say enough is enough.

Everything we've done in the last 2 years has been portable on skids, from our hog and chicken cages to our cattle fencing and water systems. If they want to tax that too, they'll have a hard time finding them to do an assessment.

we pay taxes on the county level for all property. ag lands, all buildings and outbuildings, every piece of farm equipment, livestock equipment and pay to licene any vehicle in the county on top. we pay state taxes on income and per head livestock tax to the state plus federal taxes.

i might be wrong but capital gains is to go up 50% in 2011 and cuts to death tax expire plus hikes in every tax bracket. anyone have that specific data.

Maybe they are just having (ANOTHER) registered dispersal. Come next year they'll have changed their minds and never missed a sale. The list of those type of outfits are as long as my arm.

Same here where I am in Va.

With the "death tax" cut expiration, as of Jan.1, 2011 the tax on inheritance will be 55%.!!

Makes a person wonder if the amount of added debt from buying out the other shares of the bull development center and sale facility has anything to do with the dispersion? A lot of $$ went into building that very impressive facility.

Be a beautiful setup if a guy had an extra $15-20 million laying around...

Basin Angus Ranch on the Market In an announcement that has caused a stir in thelivestock industry, Basin Angus Ranch of Hobson, Montana has listed their ranch for sale and will host a total dispersal of the Basin Angus Ranch herd. Basin Angus Ranch has been a leader in the industry. Their two-day sale, which will be held at the end of October (see flyer) will feature the top genetics they have a history of producing. The Ranch alone is also quite the gem. For sale for $12,000,000, it boasts a state-of-the-art sale facility that must be seen to be believed. It is complete with a 6,000-head feedlot and bull development center. Premier Intermountain Properties has the listing.

Well, to say the least, I was shocked and dismayed to learn of this dispersal! I have not heard anything definitive about WHY it is occurring, but given the current Political machinations of our "Destroyer in Charge" (Obama), I can certainly understand the consternations that Doug and Sharon HAVE to feel about their future operations!

I feel as though I am losing a part of my beef cattle ethos and philosophy of the Beef Business! I have watched the development of the Stevenson Angus 'Family' almost since it's inception, and certainly would have never imagined that fate would cut into them in such a way.

But, it goes to show what terrible "outside" influences can do to change a seemingly solid interprise by the deliberate actions of a Political Party capitalizing on the apathy of the voting public! The unbelievable results of the current and future TAX problems that this Administration, both Democrats and Republicans in the Congress, have foisted on ALL businesses in the United States is appalling and terrifying. I see this current governmental malaise as "Big Brother" destroying our way of life!

DON'T GET ME STARTED!

is it true that all the cattle are headed to Russia, and Doug will be going to oversee operations for a couple years.

Well my sources say it is none of the "political" reasons given by Doc- and that Basin will be bought out by Sinclair Angus Ranch....

You may believe what your "sources" may tell you, or you may continue to carry the Liberal, Progressive philosophy to the extreme and dis-believe what is in front of your eyes, but you may also live to regret your dis-belief!

If anyone thinks that the current TAX problems and governmental malaise is non-existant, and that everything is peaches and cream in our World - THINK AGAIN!

Doc, maybe OT's sources are liars just as he is and he's too gullible to realize it.

And OF COURSE they will remain anonymous!!!!!!!

Yep Doc- and some like to whine and blame everything on politics, government, and taxes....And its been my experience that those the whine and blame the loudest against government and the taxes to pay the services are the ones that also whine and b*tch the loudest when the services aren't immediately at their beck and call when they want them.... :P

Some seem to forget about the Fatcat Bankers/Investment Firms that played roulette with their investors money in their GREED to stuff their own pockets--- about bankrupt the country- and made operating/expansion money in many US industries almost nonexistent....

If my info is correct (and we'll just have to wait and see if it comes thru- since it isn't a complete done deal yet ) it would appear to me tho that Sinclair Cattle Company isn't afraid of investing in the future of this country that you seem to think is doomed- or the angus industry......
And with their holdings they have enough $$$$ to keep the ranch from being broken up....

I heard that the bank finally wants it money on the Basin ranch and that the Stevenson ranch sold the cattle to Russia.

I have also heard that they sold the majority of the herd to an operation in Russia and that Doug will be heading over there for two years to help run the operation.
