Batten down the Hatches

checked the heavies at midnight and it was trying to "snain" (as demodriver calls it)....at the 2 am check, it was a full-out blizzard...coming at ya sideways so that ya had a hard time keeping your bearings!! It has been full-out all day today..several inches on the ground and supposed to last the night...guess I won't be lucky enough to get away with checking the "ladies" every 2 hours..gonna be every hour tonight with this storm and the howling winds that are bringing it in!!! Roads are nasty (had to take demodriver to doctor today and it was NOT fun), so PLEASE DRIVER SAFE IF YOU MUST DRIVE AT ALL TODAY!!

Right now the wind is howling....maybe 30+mph. The temp is 32 F and we had some rain showers this afternoon. It is supposed to get a bit icy and then by Sunday eve., they say we will have 5-8 inches of snow. Not fun weather for checkin cows or being born! But this too shall pass. Hang in there, now :)

Depending on who you listen to we will either have 4-8 inches of snow or 1-3 inches of snow with .25-.5 inches of ice or ,25-.5 inches of ice and 1-2 inches of rain... Yuck... Just yuck. It changes about every 12 hours, we shall see.. Lastest has us in the northern edge of the 1-3 inches of snow so hopefully that means we won't get the .5 inches of ice.. I really don't want the ice.

I can't hardly believe what I am seeing  but a quick step out the door and it must be close, the thermometer says 57.7 and the wind must be blowing about 25-30mph  . What a difference a week makes as it was a heck of a lot closer to 0 than 50 a week ago at this time. Man the cows are in for another shock :help: in the next 24 hrs when it gets back to the 20's. Only consolation is that we are getting closer to spring by the day.... 8)

easily received 10" here within the span of 18 hours....however, the sky is clear as a bell now...lots of stars...would be awful pretty night if it were not getting so danged cold....temp is dropping quickly (18 now) and the wind is whistling outta the south!! By the looks of the radar, the storm has now moved east of us!!

Oh oh... I have never seen this here but they have broken out the Blizard warning for north of here.. We won't get it here but they are talking towards 16 inches of snow and high winds.. we are either in the 3-6 range or 6-10 depending along with high winds.. Nothing has really started but tehy are talking about clising down I-80 already because if the ice that we should start getting darn soon. Once again, I am so, so, so glad to not be calving right now...

Sounds like a replay of what we got on the 13th  12-15 inches of snow and wind up to 45mph.

WE have had enough this winter now I think... Late NOvember/early Dec (Can't even remember which one, and than these in feb are getting old... The worst we had here was 14 or so inches back a month ago or so.. Still Feb and March has been known for a few good ones too. Most everything here is now coverd with a thin skim of ice.. I need to go back out soon, hope I don't crack my skull on the front steps..

Well shoot... The weather folks messed up a bit I guess unless we get hit again today (They were saying we would but that the heaviest stuff should have passed by now).. We did loose power for about 3 hours from the ice but we got zero snow and this morning there is not a trace of ice on anything but the ground... slicker than... welll you know, out there right now with water on top of ice but looks like we onlylost a tree or two... Haven't seen what happened north of here last night but east of here (about 15 miles) someone reported 1.3 inches of ice.. I am finding that hard to believe but the way the strom came in maybe we just got darn lucky.

Well it all missed us too, Ill rancher-- Went south...100 miles south of us and roads were glare ice- other areas south- east- and west of us got 8-10" of snow...We got nothing...Temps been beautiful 30's to 40's for highs- in the teens and 20's for lows...
Looks like a huge area of the east is getting wet tho...:

This is about the coolest morning for sometime- only 10 degrees-- but dense fog ( should be some good rain the end of May)...Been holding off to go feed the cows to see if it would lift a little so I could find them...

It is just a mess out there.. Th rain melted what little snow was left (Well, some of the big drifts survived) and all the road side ditches are busted over and a lot of roads are water covered... The low spots in the fields resemble small lakes and we have some trees down. Could have been worse... Could have been a lot worse. Saying we should get some snow this afternoon and tonight but who knows...

Another system is developing over colorado and should be here by Wed... Looks like rain for now.. Might never get into the fields in late March if this keeps up.

Well it did'nt miss us we had no snow on Friday now we have 12 to 20 inches on the level. We did'nt get much wind it's 30 degrees here right now.We did'nt have a plowable snow all winter now we do and I'm not in any mood to plow snow, there is nothing I hate more than plowing snow extreme waste of time I think I will just drive thru it for a couple weeks and it will leave on its own.

Yikes Denny... I don't mind the snow in December and January but the novelty wears off after a while. Good luck digging yourself out.

We did have wind last night... Sustained 45 with gusts of 60 mph...the lights flicked on and off all night.. Worried a bit about power failure for a while there.. eghbor told me he lost power around 7:30 and it didn't come back until this morning.. Different electric feeds.. I don't mind plowing snow once or twiice, the skid steer or the loader tractor makes quick work of the small areas that we have to plow.. That being said sometimes I think a nice blower on the front of a tractor would be a heck of a lot faster... WE don't get too much snow out here usually but when we do it makes for a long day to get chores done but we could ger around that if we had too.

All we managed is a skim of ice yesterday and rain and wind. Don't know why but all the churches were cancelling services today. There are some scattered power outages but nothing out of the ordinary. They're calling for an inch of snow today but doubt if we get it. The Spoony is going to go out for now. It was over 3/4 bank full Friday night.

I R I was up your way Friday morning. Forgot that BVHS had their own wind turbine. Also went by the wind farm south of Wyanet and only 3 weren't running.

Shoot, you were real close to me than, I am all of 5 or so miles west of BVHS... Half the place is in that district and half is in Annawans.. I wish all the place was in Annawans as the taxes are about 50% of BV's school district, lol.

I can see the windfarm down near Tiskliwa (I can't spel that name for the life of me) from our place on a clear day.. We are getting hit with some snow now.. I ned to g feed the bottle babies, great..

The Rock is going to burst this week too probably I would imagine.. Lots of snow up near Sterling from what I have heard.. That suff starts melting and oh my... I think our ditches might break out if we get too much more.. I am looking at the water just running out of thef ields like crazy right now.. The swamp pastures are getting charged good with this because they hold all the water they get, our water table is way up right now.

Well, figured out the reason for the power problems.. well, it had to cause some problems.. Hadn't checked the south end of the place as there are no trees there or anything like that we would have to clean up from the storm... Well, alont the road there were 12 utility poles just snapped to pieces and laying across the road.. I don't know where they cut the power to them but they had to somewhere as the lines were laying on the pavement.. I kept my distance and drove towards town.. As I looked up I saw the lines sagging and at the far end of the line it was snapped... They are going to have a busy week or so I have a feeling.. Saw some other damage on north south roads utility poles too...
