Anybody have any comments on BC Matrix 4132. A lot of you know pedigree's better than I do. I'm going to look at some bulls on Mon. and he is sire of a lot of them.

I've got a son out of a Bruno cow I like. Would buy another if I could get one from a good cow.
Some say he may be narrow on top, but not a problem with mine.
Don't see any obvious EXT witches yet.
EXT X 6807 is a no brainer for maternal.

We have seriously looked at using the Matrix bull in the past, but he has too much growth, a bit too much frame, and too low $EN for our program. I think Matrix is probably a good fit for a lot of folks.
I really like the 854E bull, my only problem is that I have rarely seen a son that has a good a profile as 853E himself. That always unnerves me a bit.
We have used a bit of emblazon stuff and like it though.

They weaned off with good weaning weights- have held up as the tops thru a tough long cold winter- and have fantastic dispositions (my biggest worry with EXT in the pedigree).....

I looked into Matrix a few years ago. I liked the 'look' of the bull,
but he is just too big, too growthy for what we were looking for.
We too, really liked our Magnitude calves and the cows the heifers
grew into.

I've used him the past couple years and really like them. The bulls were my higher selling bulls last year and the few I kept for this year are looking about the same. I planned on keeping the heifers to breed last year, but a friend bought them from me. My heifers look good so far to breed this year. Both thte bulls and heifers have alot of rib shape and capacity. And I haven't noticed that they are too framy, but that could be my cows keeping that under control. The only thing I would like to change in my calves is that they could have a little bit more bone in them??

I remember my old cowman friend saying about big-boned cattle:
When soup bone is $1.00/lb those cattle will be worth something.
(he was talking about a breed of cattle that I won't mention by
name here.) Made me chuckle when you mentioned 'more bone'.
Thanks for the memories. He was such a good guy--I really miss
him. He has passed away--went to Denver for an operation and
never came out of the anasethic.
But that's another story.

Why wouldn't you want some bone in their structure? I am not a fan of frail boned cattle, and I think Matrix takes some bone out.
