Looking into Young Creek from beside the road.

This spot was widened from one lane in 2004. It took four months to do 500 yards of roadbed.

About halfway up, looking back where we came from.

Going down Red Hill into Young Creek before the final climb. The top is the little notch just left of center.

I did, thank you!! Is there a bit of white water on those rivers?

Most of it is until about the last 20 miles of the valley to salt water. We didn't go right to the wharf this time. I couldn't begin to name all the tributaries of the Bella Cola River but it carries a lot of water at the mouth.

I can only imagine hauling hay, in the winter, up that goat trail you claim is a road! I sadly must tell ya that after veiwing the road to your place, I won't be coming to visit! But that was probably part of the plan! :D Gorgeous, gigantic country you live in! :D :D

I have not driven in to Bella Coola in a long time.

Wife - girlfriend then - and I did the trip from Willies Pond into BC in a 1973 Monte Carlo - so you can imagine how it went. The year was 1978!

We found a place that actually had beer!!! There was the annual beer strike on at the time - so we stayed for an extra day just to have a few extra drinks - remember it well. I am a lot older and quieter now. :D

Have family in Williams Lake - might drop in to see them this Christmas if I can get out of the desert. Moving to Syria this next week for another year of fun in the sun.

In the early 1980's I used to drop into the airport at BC - was flying the big yellow Buffalo for SAR in the Air Force - have a young man named after one of the medical crew - the boy was born in the back of the airplane at around 1000 feet above the ocean on the way south the Victoria.

You brought back a pile of great memories.

Here is one to pass along.

At the bottom of the hill we lost the muffler on the Monte Carlo - no surprise there - so we camped along the side of the road - a young grizzly took a liking to my down sleeping bag - feathers everywhere!

You have a good one.

Oh ho, so you can do a bit of "extreme rafting"??

Awesome pictures, thank you for taking us along!!! I hope one of you was driving and one taking pictures...doesn't look like a good road to do both at the same time on

Unlike 'H, the road doesn't scare me...I can't wait to come visit :D

That was fun Gcreek, thanks for taking us along to Bella Coola. Later this month I'll take everyone on a trip to Prince Rupert, and something a little special on the 15th. I'm not saying what it is, you'll all have to wait and see  :D

Looks like it is navigable by sea to Bella Coola. We a planning a trip up the coast this fall. If we get that far up maybe we could meet for tea and fish. Looks to be quite a hike by road. No shortcut from anywhere. Google shows a nice airstrip at Anaheim lake, is there any service from Kamloops?

H is a big chicken

Great pics Dave!! Beautiful area!! I'm not too sure how much I'd like that drive...is there a law against guard rails in BC??

Thats some awesome country...........but I have a ton of questions...........how often do yall get to town, do you have electrical service up there, do they literally "airmail" your postage in.........?????

Thanks everyone.

H, as Tuff said to Lane in Eight Seconds, You're a PUSS!
Get your atlas and you will find you don't have to drive the hill unless you come by ocean first. :P

Burnt, Yes they do raft these rivers, also drift for fishing salmon. One of the oldtimers drowned under a log jam a little over a year ago. I prefer land.

Broke Cowboy, glad I could bring back a few memories. Take Care.

Nicky, I actually did take some of them while I was driving the hill, Mrs was driving in the valley. You are welcome anytime, Aug and Sept are nice but be prepared to see this country from a haying tractor. :D

JB, we're waiting. I have been to Terrace once as a kid. Smithers in about 87 or 89.

Yanuck, it takes two hours to drive from Anahim Lake to Bella Coola, a few guys have driven the 90 miles in an hour and fifteen but you wouldn't want to ride with them.

Per, don't know how far north you are planning but there is a ferry stop in Bella Coola and Hwy 20 out to Williams Lake. You will go right by our door.
There is one flight per day from Vancouver to AL, no regular flights from Kamloops.

Mrs Greg, there are no guard rails because the occasional rockslides and avalanches would remove them and they cost too much to replace. :D

Hooks, I could really string you a line. :P
We make one or two trips to Williams Lake a month, it is our major trading center. We get mail and freight three times a week to Anahim Lake
AL townsite and the majority of the outlying area have power from big diesel generators owned by BC Hydro. There are about a dozen of us that have to produce our own power. Come up and have a look. :D

BMR, there have been a few flatlanders that had white knuckles just getting to here and refuse to let me take them to B C.

Soapweed, come fishing sometime.

Listen ya snarky Canuck! In another thread a bunch of you igloo owners were picking on Justin about hockey and a fight almost started. Don't make me join up with him in a province to province tour of a$$ whoppin'! I may make it up in your country someday and I'll skateboard off that little ol' hill while you film it! My wife and kids loved the bear pictures but were quite disappointed you didnt go pet them!

What I want to know is if you dug out the atlas and brightened your horizens?
And for what it's worth, I'm not a very good hockey fan either.

Also for your info, OUR igloos keep the weather out better than those brush jacales a person finds down south. :P
