Well, since it is getting closer and closer to september (Time to get a new heifer! lol), I am starting to think of the most economically wise decision to make. I am not going to go to a sale barn to get my show calf, I want to get it off of a farm. The question is, should I get a purebred, a cross, what breed, and why?

Just trying to make you guys think. lol.
 
What is winning in your area consistently and stick with that :) Check what breed went G.C for the last couple years at the big fairs. If it was me I would get a char. Very little I dont like about them. I think it has to do with my personality in general. Everyone says black so I say white :lol: I dont want to admit it I have seen some GORGEOUS shorthorns. However I know next to nothing about cattle so do not take my advice! I'm not sure how you could win with an angus though, ever kid has one so it makes the chances of standing out pretty slim.

Little Ford Tough Bo Peep, he wanted an economically wise decision....duh, that means Angus! :D :D
 
My opinion but...Always look at home first,you must be raising some nice hiefers Angus.Look through your own crop of calves,it helps you learn to pic what you like and shows in the end if your right or wrong....truly at the end of the day winning at the achievment day isn't really what 4-H is all about :)
 
You're right... winning it all is what it is about lol, jk, jk.

I thought about that a fair bit, but my reasoning for getting from somewhere else is that I would like to bring in some new genetics. Well, that. and Dad is selling most of the cows and starting fresh :lol:
