Killing time here till my meds kick in but I got thinking what my favorite hunting memory is-I've been lucky to have quite a few. I think it was when I first started bow hunting-I think Ty was 7 or 8 years old then. We went out one cold foggy morning-we'd walked maybe a mile still hunting when we could hear bucks sparring through the fog. We had a little parley and decided to try and get to another willow clump closer to the noise. About halfway to it the bucks came out of the fog-five big mature whitetails-145-165 inch deer. Ty and I froze and they ambled by us at maybe 15 yards still poking and pushing with each other. In retrospect I could of probably drew and they might of held up for a shot-instead we just watched them drift off into the fog.

That…is a neat hunting experience.

Several come to mind but let's try this one. Seems the experiences not involving a kill are the ones that linger in your mind. Bow hunting, and had a light misty rain. Climbing a tree setup by another friend, and I did not like how the pegs were setup, nor the climbing it in the rain…slippery. Halfway up, I decided I ain't doing this. Got down, went up the hill, kind of steep, and laid down, feet down hill, ball cap pulled down so I could barely see downhill. Doe with two young came along, the doe held course, but the two young ones, drifted up hill to me. The mommy did not like it, and finally got their attention and made them come back down to her. But…before she drawed them back, I was counting the whiskers on their noses, which was inches away, thinking their next step was going to be on me.

The kids and I one their first mule deer hunt and we covered lots of country on horse back. It was warm and we didn't see much but a great time. They both tagged out on smaller bucks but have made up for it in the years since.
Britt had a long tracking job on her second deer in deep snow out in the middle of the home ranch. She never gave up and walked her wounded deer down and finished him off. many a hunter would have given up in the tough conditions she tracked it in.

I whiz around the beer isle and sure enough there is the familier hiney of my favorite box boy bent over a box of taco sause... He looks up and smiles..... He sees the sweat off my brow and wild looking eyes..And says: "Can I help you mame?" I lean over my cart outta breath and ask if he knows where the burger seasoning is......
