The girls -emily left-sara right-got a pair of comfy seats to watch Emily's heifer calve. Ty gave it to her for her birthday two years ago-then Sara showed it in 4H last year now Emily repossessed it-I'm not sure if Megan is in on the deal or not. Dad supplies the feed is all I know lol.

What are you doing with all that feed? I thought you were a grass man?

From the way you talk about feed ruining bulls and cows, I figured you never gave them any grain. :???: :???:

Gee Mike, that's easy! With the price of grain being so low, it's cheaper to buy a tote of feed than it is to buy a chair for the kids to sit on to watch the proceedings!

Yah, I know it's early and if you would have thought about it, you could have figured it out for yourself.

Have a good one anyway. :)

Ahh Mike have you ever heard of 4H -it's this deal where kids feed up a steer-the feed comes in big white bags-at least at our place it does. You know I knew one of the 'bucket ranchers' would jump all over that pic-and I was right.

Who are you calling a "BUCKET" rancher?

We drylotted our grass cattle last summer because it pencilled better than trucking them out to grass-strange times we live in for sure.

Those were yearlings sunshine-and you sure seemed to recognize a feed sack quick-I guess I'll break the news to my little girls that the focus of that pic was a sack of feed not their smiling faces lol. Stand back folks were about to see some a cuttin' and a pasteing lol.

I am just picking on you because I have read over and over by you that grain fed cattle are no good in the pasture and will not hold up. Lo and behold here you are feeding yearlings that are "Grass Cattle". No offense intended.

The pictures of the girls are adorable. I didn't mean to distract from them one bit.

Jersey no but they're sisters-Emily is 8 and Sara is 11-fortunately they look like their Mom and not their Dad. That feed is $285 a ton delivered in those minibulk bags-it's awful spendy but it's to much bother to try and find somebody to mill off a couple hundred bushels of grain. Only 6 more weeks and 4H is done for another year-those people who drag show cattle around all year have alot more ambition than I do.

I'da never guessed there was that much difference in their ages...they're both cute kids.

What we are buying is $149.00 a ton, not delivered, specifically mixed for developing heifers. It's bagged in 50# sacks. Just recently they switched from 100# returnable sacks to the 50# non returnable. Last year we averaged 3.8 lbs per day gain with the feed we are getting, and for the price, I can't see any reason to change.
Our Fair is the first part of June. so we have a lil over 5 weeks left before show time.
Good luck to yer kiddo's that are showin.
