Better Day - 7 pics

Today was much better. After almost a decade of drought, I decided to never complain about moisture again... but a little break would be nice :-). At least this isn't January... it won't stay for long!

Yesterday, this cow wanted in my house... and I don't blame her :lol: . We ended up with around 20 inches out of this storm. In the past two weeks, we've gotten right at 40 inches of snow. This spring is acting like springs in the past, maybe we're pulling out of the drought. More is forecasted for this week, but not as much, and it's supposed to be warmer (Smiley left out intentionally).

Today I turned pairs out which had been in the barn during the storm. I trailed them to a good, sheltered spot... getting there was the challenge.

Older calves this afternoon. Sun and a nice place to bed down makes all the difference :wink:.

BB was right... they climbed into the rocks to absorb the heat and drink melted snow which had pooled there :D.

It's definitely more snowy at your place than mine. I know what you mean about complaining about moisture (or lack thereof). I've taken a solemn pledge never to complain about snow or rained on hay again, but being human we can't help but complain once in awhile.

Your calves sure look happy laying in the sun.
 
Thanks for the pics! I honestly don't know how you guys manage it down south with the weather you tend to get. I hope everything straightens out for you.
 
Despite Mother Natures games..things look good there...While we out of power I was reading a book by a local lady who writes about the winter/spring weather of 1979..It was like reading today daily weather report...so we have survived storms before,,but I'm thinking the older we get the worse the storms get..lol

That's a good reminder Jassy :D. I was going back through my old journals last night, and this isn't even close to the worst spring I've put in up here so far. Actually, this is typical for my country... anything after March 20th is a crap shoot until mid-May for those of us living on the eastern slope of the mountains... something called upslope...or "up-slop" :lol:. At least I can put my pairs back into shelter during these storms... if they were still pregnant, they'd be aborting right and left if I had them in the good shelter, and the tree-free areas aren't very protected :shock:. Pick your poison I guess, and hope for the best :wink:. Fall calving might be the ticket, but I don't want to calve on a forest allotment. I suppose it all averages out in the long run.

I'm gonna look that book up, maybe read it this summer... :D.
 
I relate to the not complaining about moisture, but isn't it nice to be tired of snow instead of dirt? The sunshine has been great for a couple of days down here.
