I have a friend who has a cabin in the Big Horn mountains above
Buffalo, Wyoming. He comes from a sheep raising family and is
a Basque. He sent me the following and told me there have been
200 sheep killed in the last 3 days.
(In Addition to that message below.)

FYI,

The Big Horn Mountains,

Sheep owners have reported up to 100 sheep have been killed by a wolf(ves) from Dull Knife to Red Fork of Powder River. The FFWS is chasing them with helicopters, fixed wing and ground vehicles with intent of putting a collar on them to track them. Another siting has been around the Hazleton area.

Just for your information only

Folks:

Upon returning from our NWSAC meeting and getting back into the office this
morning, I received this email. I thought this might help folks understand
the nature of the problem that introduction of these non-native animals has
created for us here in the west, and why you always find me bringing up
these animals in terms of the role and service of WS.

This may be a large animal, but I do not believe it is necessarily
"atypical" of many of the wolves roaming the Rockies today. This is why our
guard dogs, and most certainly our livestock, have no defenses to
them------these are essentially "land sharks" with no natural predators
except man---and of course man is very limited in what he can do in terms of
defending his property---

Just thought you might be interested----

FH where was it in Wyoming where the landowner caught the FFWS on his private property with some wolves they were collaring?
The people of Wyoming need to keep up their stand on Wyoming's wolf plan. They shouldn't fold like our former governor did.

The idiots...putting collars on them

Here was one wolf with collar some years ago. Suddenly "Wolf" started using highways and ended up in a harbour :D the collar was founded under a truck.

It's pretty obvious critturs like this can be awful hard on the pocket book.

How much beef / mutton can a dog like this eat in a year?

My Great Pyrenees is one third that size and eats us out of house and home as well as rabbits and any dead stock that comes her way. No match for one of those. When the wolves migrate through our place they don't waste their time on calves they bring down young cows at the salt lick. They are looking for a full meal not a nugget. A case of tree hugging causing a rash.

I always get pretty wound up when I hear people make the old claim that wolves only kill the sick and the weak. Nobody enjoys a prime piece of meat more than a wolf. Those people have probably never seen the aftermath of wolves teaching pups to hunt. When you've seen cows dragging their intestines on the ground or just hamstrung and left, or left alive with big chunks eaten off of them you lose any respect or admiration for the animals.
