I dont guess it makes much differnce, they are feeder cattle, but Im thinking one of those Limi bulls is throwing those brown calves and one is throwing pretty good looking black calves.
good luck
PS I guess the good news is I found about 16,so far,and no calving problems yet.

My God man them cows are fat. Specially just after calving. Don't look like much grass in the pen. What the heck are you feeding them Haymaker? Canadian barley!!!!!!

We get some Black Angus calves that are that color too, Haymaker.
It's sure nothing to worry about. Those Limmy bulls are doing you a whale of a job, if you ask me.

We used Limousin in the early 80's and I always liked the calves... and the bulls. But keeping the heifers for replacements is really tough. They just don't breed up very well. If you get them to 4 years old, it seems like they last forever; but you lose a lot of them getting them to 4 years old. Anyway, that was our experience.

I sure liked the Limousin Angus cross calves tho. And we still had some Hereford cows at that time too. And those were nice calves. They weighed good at weaning. One thing, I just remembered...a Limousin man bred his cows to Chiniana bulls one year. I was there when those calves came in to be weighed. I could see under their belly and they weighed 450 lbs.
He said, "I don't believe I'll try that again."

I guess they will blacken up fine, and I dont claim to understand cattle genetics like some of the folks here do,tradin sale barn cattle we try and buy the best black bulls we can afford and then concentrate on getting the calves to pound out.
Seems kinda strange tho to see calves that light outa cattle that are black...........Merry Christmas to you and yours Denny.
good luck

Merry Christmas to you also..

We have alot of those brown babies every year and by fall they are jet black. We had one last spring that was almost red but within a few month's turned black.Your cattle look well taken care of keep up the good work..

Yes, Denny, we have seen the same thing as you. The Angus calves turn just as black as the ones that were always black. I'm trying to remember the Limo cross calves tho, I'm not sure they did turn coal black. But I'm also not sure they didn't.

Your slippin' FH :-) It's the Vigortone that makes em black.

OH, YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you, thank you, BMR!!

How could I forget!!!!!!!!!! :P However, we weren't on Vigortone when we had those doggone faded black Limo cross calves.
:P

So, if that color bothers you Haymaker, you need to get some good mineral into those cattle. Take it from BMR and myself...

We run a commercial black brangus herd and 90 percent of the calves are that color at birth. Usually they are black by weaning takes some a little longer though.

Faster horses, dont let big dummie from big beaver fool you,he never even fed minerals to those watusi's till he started reading your posts.
I use a custom blend that a local vet makes, have no idea whats in it ,seems like its his top secret, truth be know its probably 99% salt,if and when this Texas weather lets us restock,I will make an attempt to find a vigor tone dealer close ...............Merry Christmas girl.

I dont believe this one will turn black............looks like a pink nosed Limi to me.
I gotta figger out which one of those bulls are throwing these red calves............I promised a neighbor he could take one of these black Limousine bulls,he wont like these red calves.......................good luck

Kind of funny how we get one of them out of a "black" angus every once in awhile too.....

Goodlooking calves any way you look at them-- my theory is I don't care as much what color or what size at this time of their life--just that they are alive and healthy...
And like someone said them cows of yours look darn right healthy- and contented...
