From the AP on Tuesday, February 26th:

The Bureau of Land Management is proceeding with a plan to move 700 wild horses to a ranch in southwestern Montana, despite the fact that the owners of neighboring ranches are concerned about whether the land can sustain — and the fences contain — the animals.

The first truckloads of horses are due to arrive at the Spanish Q Ranch northwest of Ennis as early as Wednesday, The Montana Standard reported.

Actually I've always thought this is about the 2nd best way to handle the mustangs and wild horses (many of these mustangs are ones folks just turned lose when they didn't want to take care of them anymore)...
Cheaper than feeding them in a compound- and at least this rancher is getting paid for providing a service--- which justifies their government money better than you're, my, and many others being on the guvment teat taking the subsidy checks just because its there.....

The #1 best way to handle these horses would be to open the slaughter houses and use the meat to feed the starving of the country/world...

Any good wolf packs in the area to keep the horse numbers in check? Maybe the wolfes can be trained to eat wild horse instead of beef. :D

paying to not graze your own cattle, and run their horses is not a subsidy??

that is no different than paying you to nor raise corn and plant it to grass.
or pay to not plant corn to save water

terming it differently is still sucking off the welfare tit.... if you are too lazy to raise your own cattle on your land, rent it to a private individual, not uncle Sam.

you flip flop like crazy oldtimer.

There are several ' ranches' that get a big check to keep wild horses.

I don't think it's right but then again I don't think it's right to wipe them off the face of the earth either.

Management is what they need to keep everyone happy and sometimes that in itself ain't too purty.

I'm not real sure that most of us true western ranchers think that all the so called "wild" horses need to be eliminated all together, but they damn sure need a lot of management. We as the good lord intended were to be in charge of all creatures because he figured we were to have intellengence and reasoning power, comman sense and abilities enough to rule over these lesser animals. We have even failed in this department. A civilized society that spend's big bucks to pretend that some of these predators need reviveing and defending when we really have a human need for assisstance,or that nearly every wild thing must be protected is more than stupid. So many of any animal will, over time, get to be to much. Mother nature see's to that in most species and we can stand back and watch. The ones I feel sorry for in the long run is the animal's that we "protect" for some unknown reason. In the longrun they will pay a horrible penalty. Think about the Leachmen horses south of Billings, another smaller bunch near Absorkee, some 100-125 head near Bismarck ,the dog lady somewhere so.west of Billings and the list go'es on .. These persons are not managers or even kindhearted thety are greedy, ignorent stupid and a disgrace to the human race. All this said I'll bet in just a few years these 700+ horse's will be back in the news starveing to death or some other awfull problem.

There's just TOO damn many lib-tard 'urbanites' moving out here and calling themselves 'experts', and meddling in whatever occupation (or subject of interest) that they choose to consider themselves 'expert' in. As far as I'm concerned, this so called 'economic-collapse' wasn't quite BIG enough to suit me. It'll be 'big' enough, when the lib-tards tuck-tayl and run back to whatever 'metro-suburbinite UTOPIA' that they chose to leave in the first place.

The West is NOT in need of 'Re-Inventing' or 're-imagining'...and we do NOT need to 'keep up' with the pace of life, back in the more heavily populated areas.

Well heck, where IS'NT it 'heavily-populated' anymore ?

Just kinda curious... Aren't you from New Jersey?

actually, no...I'm not.

I spent 4 yrs in high-school there...I'm 45 now...the past 20 yrs working for ranchers; so I'd hafta say those yrs prior to high-school (stateside) after living as a military-brat/dependant (overseas) does'nt qualify me as a 'Joisey-boy'....

the Rices were neighbors of mine and while I don't agree with all of their ideas, it is an opportunity to make more money than raising cattle. their biggest opposition in the Madison Valley is a guy who never had a job that his parents didn't give him and who is sucking up all the public money that he can by building wetlands with irrigation water and we are talking millions. Also the same guy who took everything I built and the ranch I spent 33 years of my life on. Jeff Laslo of Granger Ranches. He can't stand the thought of any one else sliding up to the trough. If the Rices can make it with all the bs the government will throw at them then good for them. In the meantime Americans need to get hungry and understand what is important. Then a lot of problems will go away
