bloat blocks

Help Support Ranchers.net:

I've used bloat blocks when grazing green alfalfa during the summer with great success; however I've never used them when feeding baled alfalfa. A few folks have told me they've had cows bloat when feeding alfalfa on wet or snow covered ground, but I've fed lots of alfalfa in the snow, rain, sleet, whatever and never experienced this.

Do you have cows bloating on alfalfa hay?

No bloat problems yet. We have always fed grassy hay other years, but this year we sprayed out our grass and have 50/50 alfalfa/grass to feed. We feed it in big rounds in bale feeders and when we put in new bales they stand and eat for quite awhile. I'm a little leary of them filling up on too much alf. on their first fill off new bales when thy are first put in. A neighbour told me about the bloat blocks and said he had good luck. Just curious what others have to say.
