Helped to plan a surprise 30th birthday party for a good friend this week. The plan was for him and his wife to go for supper with some other friends and us, in another town, so everyone else involved with the scheme could get to their house and setup the tables and chairs in their garage. We ended up having to bring chairs and things, so we told them to go ahead to the restaurant, and we'd catch up. :wink: Once they were gone, their daughter called and gave us - and everyone else - the green light to bring stuff in. Once that was done, we hit the road to meet them at the restaurant. But, we didn't make it all that far.
We got 5 miles north of town, and a Whitetail doe blew out of the ditch right in front of an oncoming semi. She bounced off of him like an Indian rubber ball, and catapulted straight into the bumper of our truck. Peeled the bumper back under the front end, and somehow she also swung around into the side of the truck, caving in my door. By the time we got to an approach where we could pull over, the wife and I were laughing about it, but my heart was still skipping a few beats.
All happened so darn fast, I can't tell you what I was thinking, or how I saw myself reacting. I saw her come out of the ditch, but she was bouncing under our truck before I could move the wheel. Long story short, life can change in the blink of an eye. So, as I've said before, find your kids or other loved ones, and kiss, hug or tickle them. Listen to them laugh, and feel the world go away.
