Went down in the breaks and worked his and his son's calves. Got a few pics that turned out okay.

Bringing them into the portable pens.

The fourth generation on this ranch.

Ridin' behind his Dad on Squirt. We raised Squirt and I sent him down for them to use. Squirt has the bloodlines of three geat horse breeds. Half Shetland, quarter Quarter horse, quarter Belgiun. Maybe we should have named him oops as he was an accident. (come on, you didn't really think I would TRY to breed one like that did you? ) He helped raise my nephew and 3 sons, went thru 3 kids in another family and he's trainin' on another batch now. He's 20 this spring.

This pretty much tells the story on the moisture in this country for the last several years.

Waitin' to start.

My goosey old bay Bartender bred gelding.

Gettin' set up with the forks.

The Great grampa. He's 84 or 85. I hope I'm in as good a shape at his age.

He was just holding it for his Dad. We would never give little kids beer. The old guys used to do that to us and look at how I turned out!

I thought Bud Light was kiddy beer.

Good pics Jinglebob.

Nioce country cows and horses JB... Hope you get some moisture to fill that hole up.. We are being teased with showers right now. Been sprinkling all day, enough to knock the dust down but the rain gauge sure looks empty.. Good do with a good half inch or so on our seedings and pastures, which are FINNALLY getting going now.

Nice pictures, Jinglebob. I'm curious about the container hanging from the one gentleman's saddle. Is it a coffee cup? something to plant flowers in? or the nut bucket? :???: Curiousity kills cats, and the suspense is about killing this old cowboy. :? :-)

Thanks for the enlightenment. At first glance again this morning, before I read your answer, the thought "spitoon" entered my noggin. Glad you cleared up the mystery.

I wear wrist cuffs most of the time myself, but I call 'em gloves. :-)

The feller who taught me how to do Sheridan style carving, told me about his Grampa, an old cowboy from the turn of the century. He had an old pair of his wrist cuffs and wore them all the time at whatever work he was doing. We talked and discussed them quite a bit and why them old fellers wore them.

I have a problem with whacking my wrist on the saddle horn when I get in a hurry and I usually have a pretty good bruise on my arm, come the end of branding season, because of it. (I know, I know, I shouldn't get in a hurry, but sometimes I get all flustered and excited.)

I decided to build myself a pair out of fairly stiff leather and see if they would make a difference. I did, and they did. I wore them quite a bit last year and had to explain to quite a few people as to why I was wearing them. Several people borrowed the one for their roping hand and thought they helped them also. This feller noticed them the other evening when we were working on his saddle and wanted to try one. So I sent it with him. I keep forgetting mine and it sure would have been handy the other day, but oh well, when you don't have any better of a memory than I do, what can you expect?

They do make a difference. :-)

And here I just thought all those Buckaroo Bobs wore wrist cuffs just to make them man pretty! I always thought they looked darn silly wearing them on a hot summer day with no brush in sight.

I have a Glen Earnest made saddle that looks like the same model as what's on your bay. He looks like the kind that would make you glad you have the buck rolls! Nice pictures of nice country...hope you get some rain!

I made this one last spring.

He's nver bucked, praise the Lord, but when he ducks and dives after a cow, them buckin' rolls have come in handy a few times.

Thank you. We got a shower this morning and cancelled the branding I was going to go to. It's misty and drizzling now. Sounds like they are gettin a good rain to the west of me so maybe it will pass this way. :)

Jingle Bob,

Was that your branding or a neighbor, some of the guys look familiar to me? I see you use nordforks, we use them too. They sure are handy, but it is always fun to watch a new guy running one. :o

Good looking Red cows too!!!

Have you had a little moisture this spring?

The photo of the little guy on the shetlin, reminds me of me being that age. I had one and it was the most stubborn horse ever. But she did teach my older brothers and myself how to ride. Good memories.

It was a neighbors.

Yeah, they've got some good cows. They have bought bulls up in the Firesteel area, in years past. Don't know where they are getting them now.

No, we haven't been getting a lot. About 3 maybe 3.5 inches total since Jan 1. That area, about 1.75 in the same period. Been dry down there for quite a few years in a row. Trees and brush are dying from lack of rain. If it weren't for waterlines, there would be no water for the cattle to drink. :(
