At what age do you start branding your calves?

We branded at the end of April, and started calving in mid-February. So I'd say anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 1/2 mos.

We freeze brand ours and you should really wait until they weigh about 600-700 lbs.

Same here,we do them right before they go down to our river pasture.

I think age and brandin is probably a personal choice and depends on conditions.
I never get in a hurry to put a fire brand on a calf here in the TX Hill country,fences are fair and neighbors are friendly.
On the other hand,I brand as early as I can in deep south TX,fences are not that good and cattle can get lost pretty easy down there :wink: ...........good luck
