Branding on Sunday

[Faster horses]

Branding is a family affair. Husband and wife holding the calf while the
senior (father and father in law) applies the iron.

The set up.
[Thw little lady doing the branding is the (co) owner of the cattle.
She is one of the best all around hands I have ever known.

Where did this come from? Well, these cows have a bit of Simmental in them-- :wink:

I cut the roper's head off but I wanted to show how shiny these calves were. They've really seen some tough weather and they certainly don't show it.

And then this goes on at every branding. :lol: This is Mr.FH (the old guy) and a good friend and minral customer.

Nice pictures, I have always liked that country and it looks to be in good shape this year. Your husband doesn't look old, no gray hair, no bulging belly. Did I read in another post that you guys are selling your cows? Thanks for the great pictures.

Tena wasn't riding, she was vaccinating. They helped til dinner time and was off to do some AI'ing at Wibaux without eating lunch!


Brushpopper, yes. We are going to sell the cows. All of them.

Blkbuckaroo: There was enough help. Got kinda worriesome the night before as some of the wrestlers backed out. Sometimes you never know.
Don't think you have enough and then you are suprised. This was
a best friends branding. Thanks for the comment on the horse. I really like good-looking, good horses. This one isn't the best we've ever had, but at almost 65 years old,
(Mr. FH, not the horse :shock: ya kinda need a nice one and he is nice.


My daughter and her husband weren't there. That was some more
friends/customers. I thought it would be neat to take the picture of
them working together. Great family, they are!!

Going through the FFA Scrapbooks here in Plevna today with some students. Pictures of both Bruce and Lloyd Ketchum in there. Kind of comical to see the LLoyd pics before he was famous.

I bought a RA flush cow this winter that is a full-sib to Bruce's Giuliani herdsire.

Gale Jerome made Mr. FH saddle and he also made the breast collar.
It never interferes with the horses breathing.
Interesting that we always think of his saddle as 'the new saddle'
when it was made for him in 1987!!

1963---they are a great place to do business and have the 'real
stuff'.
