branding shots?

What shots do any of you give atbranding time? Im gonna brand in a few days and was considering giving a bovo sheild gold 5. All have done in the past is given a pasterela and alpha 7 with the pinkeye guard. We had a few sick calves when we preconditioned last year so wondering if we could do something to prevent that.[/list]

Pyramid FP and PResponse - IBR, BVD, PI3
Ultrabac 7 with Somnubac - blackleg, tetanus, H somnus, etc.

Cows get...
BI Express 5 - BVD, PI3, IBR
May get an Ultrabac booster

Cows get Bovi-Shield FP, UltraChoice and Jencine ERC at preg check.

We just gave 7-way. Our vet said the calves were too young at branding
to utilize the shots. We were giving IBR-BVD-PI3, but we quit and
we never noticed one bit of difference...didn't have any sick calves.
A good mineral program can sure help the immune system of
those calves. The colostrom is the key and mineral plays an
important part in making good colostrom.

That`s exactly what our vet told us.

My vet said a 60 day old calf had about a 60% chance of utilizing the vacine. His reccommendation was to go ahead and give it, take your 60% that are protected and booster in August to get the others. We usually pull bulls then anyway and knock some flies off so it makes things not much more work than if we didn't give shots at all.
