Branding

FH I don't do a lot of cooking for branding, I am lucky and my mother still cooks. She makes homemade dough nuts every year!! But I've ate at enough to know whats good. Some of the ladies around make a tato hot dish with cheese and sour cream wow is that good. I would never complain about a free meal, but I've had some unusual things!! Mom makes it simple ribs, roast, bread, scallop tatos, taco salad and several different homemade pies. You know we all know how hard the cook works and then has to cook so you could serve pbj's and most of us would never complain.

hahahaha good one FH....and so true!!!!!

They need somethin like chocolate cake with chocolate frosting....so later in the day either when they look in the mirror, or when they rub their mustache, they can see the chocolate frosting color and remember....oh yeah...it was chocolate cake.

Thanks everyone. I've done this for 42 years and my mind was BLANK
Appreciate all your help.

My mind is going...going...gone!!

I called someone named Casey the other day and instead asked for Jack.
(Jack is my husband.) Boy, that was BAAAAAAD!!

HEY, ACS~you have a good idea. When Mr. FH elk hunted the guys would get all ready to go to the Big Horns and stay a few days. They fixed a dish they called "Weens and Beaners." As I recall, it was pork and beans, corn and hot dogs all cooked together.

Do you think they would eat something like that at home? NO SIREEE!

I know that too-we made it in trhe bush at hudson bay-roast 3-4 weiners (2 people) and a can or two of pork and beans,. lol. Quick, easy adn tastes good. lol. I'll eat what ever gets put infront of me. lol. cept for lobster and crab-yech. lol.
When we are in the bush for breakfast we usually just broil bacon on a stick, toast, and a few pickled eggs. lol. It's my fav. lol. Or one time we brought hashbrowns up there so we bbq'd them over the fire, 2 burgers each, 3 slices of cheese each, and once tis all done, its hot, good and filling. lol. If I can member, all we ate after breakfast was some tenderloin from my doe when we got back to the sleeping quarters. lol. Just mix a bunch of good stuff up and most people will eat it and like it-or thats what i discovered here... lol.

Mine are too~well, not INTERNATIONALLY...

But pies are a work of art. Not to be swallowed whole
by a bunch of hungry men who couldn't tell you what kind they had
5 minutes later. :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :P

Bet if you lived as close to a International border like we do your pies would be Internationally FAMOUS.

FH:

Not always acceptable "cowboy fare", but anything with hardboiled eggs is good, as the eggs can be boiled and peeled way ahead of time. Then just leave them in the fridge covered with water until the night before. Then make your salad or deviled, whatever. LOL, I guess that it with hardboiled eggs, eh? Salad or deviled, no whatever!!!! :D

Dad got stranded in Korea for several months in the Army, so if we had rice 2x a year as a kid, it was too much. I like Spanish rice though. Spice the heck out of the water with cumin, chili powder, use powdered chicken broth in the water, boil it up with chopped onions, chopped red peppers, diced carrots, can of sweet corn, diced tomatoes and throw in the rice. Throw in some spicy sausage for a kick.

In case you didn't guess, I cook a lot. Takes my mind off my work.

I agree hmw The trip to town would be a huge hassle.... Once I had to go to town for more ?, by the time I got back, noone was left.

I usually cook the same thing every year.

Roast beef
Hash Browns casserole (3 or 4 recipes)
(sometimes a big ham)
Cream Corn
Beans with burger and little smokies and such
(ranch & bacon salad sometimes)
Homemade rolls
5 or 6 homemade pies (last year I made a better than sex sheet cake-that went over pretty well)
Lots of Pop, Water bottles, Ice, Beer
I usually make sweet rolls and cookies for morning break, or midafternoon if we do an afternoon branding. That is nice when you do an afternoon one-the am can be focused on dinner, pm the branding

I try to have everything done so I can be out there and help, but sometimes I just have to be the girl.

The cake is ssoooo much faster than making pies but I love making pies, this year get to share cooking duty with m-i-l we haven't worked out all the kinks of who's doing what yet...

Barbaqued beef on a bun
Hashbrown cassarole
Baked beans{done in crockpot}
taco salad
onion salad
Pies..apple ,rubarb

LOTS OF BUDWIESER :D We only have about 10 guys,so this is always lots!!

Anyway they just run to town

There are days I wish we were closer to town to make this a possibilty... But as is, cooking for the crew is actually less hassle than going clear to town for pizzas.

:D Driving to town, even if its a couple of hours round trip is more fun than vaccinating and ear taging. The best part of branding is the lunch and you wont miss that part
