Montana Angus Female Bonanza Sale Report

Sale report for the Montana Angus Female Bonanza XI Bred Heifer and Cow Sale held at the Public Auction Yards, Billings, MT on October 27, 2014

Very good demand for this offering of high quality, uniform, commercial Angus bred heifers and young cows. A house full of buyers on the seats, tuning in through the video, or logged in on the internet to bid on these large strings of females either AI-bred to Angus herdsires or natural serviced to own-sons of Angus herdsires. The cows and heifers were in range ready flesh condition, not overconditioned. The AI bred heifers were synchronized and ultrasound checked to calve in tight groups, anywhere from just 1 day to 15 days. The natural service heifers were bred and checked to calve for just 30 days. A few groups of the young cows were AI Bred to calve for 2 days with most natural serviced for 30 days, just a couple lots that were exposed for a 45-60 day calving group. Many of the heifers were sorted for the sex of the calf, a few groups of the cows were sorted that way. All prices are per head.

Neighbor to the south buys western origin heifer calves to background/breed every year. Sold a big group of char/red angus cross of big frame that brought $3900/head. Some of these prices look like bargains to me versus what we are seeing here in W. IA.

Crawford, Ne Nov 21: AI synched, ultra-sounded for 2 weeks calving, reputation heifers at $3300 ish. Nice bull bred u/sounded for 30 days $2700 ish. Young cows to $3700 ish. Aged cows, large frame up to $3800. Incomplete report, we went back to work.

I've been buying some short term cows. I am not interested in anything under 1300#s and have an average of $1400 a head in the ones we've purchased so far.
