Brought the replacement heifers and their mothers home on Sunday. I weaned them when I got home. We now have every calf on the farm weaned or sold. These pairs got caught out on grass while I was trying to get the ones we would be selling home and on feed. The white stuff caught us off gaurd this year. Having these pairs out still, actually had a silver lining, we got to try out some bale grazing. I have to say I was quite impressed as to how it went.

It was a little foggy when I got there.

Nice heifers. From what I can see, it looks like they ought to make mamas.

Thanks, we are quite happy with them this year. Our calf crop was better right across the board this year.

Those cows are in the same condition our drys are in.

Don't like that white stuff, what is it? :P

Thanks, they had a pretty good summer as we had lots of grass this year. We actually still have lots of grass, it has just become unusable till next spring however, due to the amount of snow we have got. It snowed another 1.5 - 2 inches yesterday. Very wet and now has gotten cold. The snow pack is like cement here now. If I had a horse, he would trim his own hooves just digging in the snow this year.

Looks like your drought is over, or at least in camouflage mode. The cattle are in very good flesh, and should survive the winter well. Thanks for the pics.

Like I said, drought was not our issue this year, we were quite wet. I guess the weather has been camouflaging itself this fall though, because it has been a mix of snow, rain, wind, sun, melting, and then freezing.

I try not to push my replacements at all. I aim to have have them cycling good and that is all. If I can keep my cow herd a little more moderate, I find them easier to keep in this kind of shape all year without anything but grass and hay.
