Spent our Black Friday far from shopping and crowds. I cannot imagine standing in a line with 2000 other lemmings in order to save a nickle on a gadget. So we went up to our summer/fall pasture and brought our little bunch of cows home today. It was in the 40's and the breeze wasnt too bad, so all things considered, it was a pretty swell day on the desert. Trailing past the reservior that holds the water we water our hayfields with.

My riding pard for most of the day was Little H. She is growing right up and is a dang fine hand. Her and Reba trailin down the road.

Our gate crew and moral support came along on the support vehichle. Didnt have any traffic to flag which is par for the course out this direction. Did see 1 toyota truck during the day. Quite a traffic jam. :D

Its a good thing she takes after her mother in the looks department. She never quits grinning and takes to livestock like a lizard to a sunny rock.

Still heading north. Its about 11 miles all the way home, but we just drove them down to a set of association corrals and trailered them the rest of the way.

A shot of our water supply. When they built it in the 70's the engineers said it would only fill once in 7 years. It has never not filled. :? Shows ya what engineers know!

The structure is the main way the water enters the pipeline that heads for town. It has looked like that since early July. A dry year over-all but we did get several great rains through October. It should be full by next spring but who knows how long it'll last.

The south end of north bound bovines. Wish we had several times more cows, but we enjoy the bunch we do have. Someday....

The Sheeprock mnts have a light dusting of snow. You'd have to look longer than i can to find a cloud today.

Heading for another gate so we could put our gate crew to work.

Mrs. H staying back after opening said gate.

While Littlest H turned them to the gate.

Cattle guard guarding a cattle guard.

And away we went..

Some joker dumped off a fairly big pumpkin. Have no idea where it came from or why it was deposited there. Cows gave it the once over.

As did my mount Twizzler. Giant orange gourds are counted as entertainment out here. First one i have ever encountered while driving cows.

Made the turn to the west. Over halfway about here. This pasture was used early in the spring and the fall rains sure put a bloom on the grass.

Swapped riding pardners for the last couple miles. He is pretty good kid too. Think i'll keep em' both. :D

The sun looks good but the BTU's coming out of it were kinda weak. Funny how it does that this time of year and when it starts slipping towards the western horizon, it loses what little punch it packs.

Bout there. Cows trailed nice

Littlest H riding drag.

Coming up the alley to stuff them on the trailer. They are standing in the wirelot at the house tonight. Might'a could of left them another couple weeks but the grass was kinda course and there was just enough snow crusted to hide the regrowth. So home they are. Bout time they started on that expensive stackyard of hay anyway right?

The crew of capable and willing hands. We may not have many cows at the leaning H, but i am not really raising cattle, i am trying to raise kids. :D And Mrs. H is attempting to raise a husband. We love this lifestyle and our cows and each other. All in all it was a pretty great day. Hope ya'll enjoyed tagging along with a bunch of desert rats. Have a fine evening! :D

That was a wonderful way to spend the day, Leanin' H. The kids thought they were driving cattle, but in a few more years they will realize they were also making memories to last a lifetime. :-)

Thanks 'H!!! I always love your pictures and seeing the family. I can't believe how your kids are growing. Your calves look great also.

Boy those kids are growing like water weeds. Our youngest turned 14 yesterday oh how time fly's. Were baleing hay right now what it lacks in quality it makes up for in volume.Oh and it's ruff what a guy will do to keep from getting a real job.

I think I like to see your pictures of extending Thanksgiving an extra day vs the inside of a shopping mall. :D
