This morning in looking through some of my saved messages, I
found the phone number for Broke Cowboy. I called and talked
to his wife. I always thought he was a class act and a real asset to this site and felt bad about him leaving. He lives a dangerous life in the military and I really wondered how he was doing, if he was safe. She assured me he was, and that he will be going to Afghanistan shortly. I was
glad for the news he was safe, not so happy to hear about him
going to Afghanistan.Where he is now, he has no access to a
computer. I told his wife that he was missed here (as has been
mentioned here from time to time) and we hope that he
will come back sometime.

Here is his last (or next to last) post on ranchers after
being offended by someone mentioning that he was a government employee, this was his reply: (I X'd out the offenders name, because it is not my intention to start an argument).

Well xxxxx - perhaps you do not know - so I will tell what I have not told many - and will not mention it again.

Probably the last time I will address you as you are a piece of schitte at best.

Yup got a government job - and despite being told many times I have a safe job someone actually tried to seriously hurt me the other day - and I spent a few days in a dark room with a very sore head and upper body.

Going home for three weeks next Sunday - reconstructive dental work - will not put me out but will keep me quiet for a week - then cut some wood for next winter and back here until July - then home for six months and apparently off to Afghanistan as a forward air controller - wife does not know - she will flip - she figures they die too fast

I volunteered and she will be very unhappy when she finds out.

I also have been away from home for two solid years - living in a part of the world that does not really always like white, Christian folks that wear blue. I work in Israel, Syria and Lebanon a bit.

Where I work you will never see a tourist - if they show up they are usually lost, in trouble and want to get out as fast as they can.

Wife runs what little we have left at home.

Got two vacations 14 days each since I have been here - spent Christmas at home last year with the family - missed the other two.

Buried my Step Mom two weeks ago - I could not get to the funeral, buried my war heroe Uncle last Nov - could not get to that one either.

Lost a few friends over here - in the war next door - and could not do much more than see them off on an airplane.

So I have security - lots of it - mostly from the point of a few rifles that I can call upon - you see, my job keeps me unarmed and in the public eye.

So I always hope they can come in time.

It is fun running around being a potential target.

When I am at home I am actually an F-18 pilot - which tends to take me from home far too much as well.

But I bought my outfit - no one gave me a penny and that is a fact - built it up from scratch under the headlights of my truck because my day job took me all over the world and left me little time for family and land.

Come on over and earn your extra money too - I think I can get you a job no prob. Just not sure if you can hack it. Not easy being on the front line - by yourself, alone, unarmed and often wondering what the heck you are doing.

Last time I will adress you so if I do again someone please remind me I am shunning this piece of schitte. I am sure you will not mind xxxxx - after all I am a government employee.

Not looking for a pity party - but my government job really pays well - especially after my 47% tax.

I am only one of thousands - we all have a neat story or two as well - but never for here.

I am 55 years old (That tidbit will surprize a few folks) and in darned good shape for an old fellow - I do it for the men and women that stand on my left and right - my experience still trumps their youth.

If I have offended others then I apologize - think I will take a break from this place - not often someone can set me off like this.

Thanks for contacting his wife FH. It is good to hear he is safe for the time being. Hope he stays that way.
I admire BC for he is doing a job that needs to be done at a age when most of us wouldn't.

Thank you for the information FH, the sad thing is that BC was arranging a visit here to see some of the direct selling initiatives amongst other things, as a result, the visit didn't occur, and I haven't heared from him since.
My prayers will be with BC and his family during his deployment.
 
BC and I have had a couple of chats about the death of a Major, 54 yrs old, that he was "aware" of and that I was friends with. This Major was known all across Canada and was an "Honorary soldier" of a couple other Countries.

When I went to the gentleman's "celebration of life" and "get together" after, I had a chance to talk to quite a few guys with chests full of medals. These guys don't open up too often about their experiences and I felt very fortunate that they shared with me.

From what I know of BC, he reminds me, very much of those guys and after sharing a day with them, I value very much what BC is doing for me and the rest of us.

My hat is off to BC and my prayers of a safe return are with him and all those that he serves with. I thank God that we are blessed to have people like him representing and protecting us. Thankyou BrokeCowboy. You are appreciated. God bless you and yours.
 
Broke Cowboy's story is can be seen though out the command I am in. We ship people around the world at the drop of a hat. Family separation, putting your life on hold while you are away and hoping things stay together while you are deployed are part of the game.
From his age I can guess that BC holds senior rank either enlisted or officer-his age gives him away. The oldest guy they deployed was a 76 year old MD; he felt privileged to serve. Despite the hardship that is the sediment in my command as well.

Just managed to get a decent internet connecton after trying all day and decided to send one out to you folks since I have not been on for a year or so.

Am in Kabul for an ammo supply run. Need some frags, smoke and another 50 mags of 5.56 if I can get it.

Some 9mm for my old faithful Browning would be nice as well. I am holding the grips on with duct tape as I lost the screws for them some time ago. Starting to really like the way it feels - might not change it back.

Kabul is not my favorite place but it is fairly quiet. Most of the bad stuff is happening down south right now. Will be out of the city tomorrow.

Country is rugged, hot and dry.

Wife found out I lied about my job because I called her on a satellite phone and mentioned to her that I was making the run tonight - I had told her I was working as an administrative person - she just sighed and told me to be careful. After 35 years she is used to me. LOL My OPSEC is usually pretty good but she sees right through me

Working at a job that no one else wanted to take - long ways from any town or city. Hoping to get a couple of good guys to come and join me but I will only accept volunteers - I will not accept anyone who was ordered to come out with me. Rumour from one of my Chief Warrant Officers is that there are two who want to give it a go - hope they are up for it. LOL It ain't the Ritz.

I do not look very military at present - shaved my head today - too many lice or some type of bug. Makes me itch like a mongeral dog. Kept the beard but trimmed it real short. Having problems with a couple of toe nails and I tugged them off tonight with my Leatherman tool - feels real good right now. But I admit it is a bit messy. LOL

I am the only colition forces person in a group of about 300 - sometimes more and sometimes less - hard to keep track of them - Afghanis. These guys are tough and smart and hard to keep up to.

Interesting work.

Have been away from home for most of three years now - wife calls me a mission junkie.

Heading home late Dec or maybe as late as end of Feb

Time to call it quits and find something close to home until the mortgage is paid.

Interesting point - in the past three years of work in Israel, Syria, Lebanon, and here, I think I have worn out about one pair of boots every month. Hard to believe. Still have my pot belly! LOL Go Figure.

Got to run - am looking for a pick up truck to take me to another camp after the supply run and I want to give my folks a call if the sat phone is charged up.

Good to hear from you BC! Just this past week I was thinking about you wondering what you have been up to.

Please know that you are frequently thought of on your mission over there. Best wishes always.
 
I'm so grateful for guys like you - - - - The Marines ask me to come back in 2003 ( at 54 years old ) but my wife and daughter threw such a fit I did not go - - - now my daughter is in the Marine reserve, go figure!

Remember all of you are in my prayers constantly!

Its good to hear from you. I too was wondering how you were doing. It sounds like such a "pat" answer to say we will keep you in our prayers, but that is about all I can do. Please have your wife contact us if there is something you or she needs. We will do our best to help out anyway possible. Its the least we can do.
 
Thank you Broke Cowboy for your service to our country. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Our son was KIA last November in Afghanistan, a staff sergeant in the army. He and 5 others were shot from behind by an Afghan border patrol who they had been helping train for years. He was a plant, just waiting to kill some of ours. It has been a very tough year here, our son was the light of our lives. His unit is due to return in August. God bless our troops. We owe them more than words can say. Our son actually posted on ranchers a few years ago - he went by goodolefister. He was home with us on Christmas Eve, and noticed a discussion my husband was reading on the site. I believe Jiggs wished him a safe return. He was soon to deploy to Afghanistan. He made it back safely from that tour, but not his second. He is forever our hero.

hopefully you will get this advice, when they grow back, which they will, clip a V in the middle, it seems to work well for the big toe,..


I would say stop sleeping with your boots on.. but that would be crappy advice...
