Today at noon the thermometer is still stuck at -8C, or about 18 F. MAN IT FEELS COLD for the first day of spring. Far below normal. The maple syrup guys are not happy. Too cold for the sap to run.
Last week we had highs of 9C for a couple of days and saw a lot of snow melt. Not so much though, the past few days. Still have a big snow drift outside the back door, on the north side of the house.
Another thing in play today, which according to weather lore is not a good omen, is the wind direction for the first day of spring. It is out of the east-northeast, which usually means that the predominant spring winds will be from there all spring.
Cool weather a comin'! Late start for the grass . . .
