Today at noon the thermometer is still stuck at -8C, or about 18 F. MAN IT FEELS COLD for the first day of spring. Far below normal. The maple syrup guys are not happy. Too cold for the sap to run.

Last week we had highs of 9C for a couple of days and saw a lot of snow melt. Not so much though, the past few days. Still have a big snow drift outside the back door, on the north side of the house.

Another thing in play today, which according to weather lore is not a good omen, is the wind direction for the first day of spring. It is out of the east-northeast, which usually means that the predominant spring winds will be from there all spring.

Cool weather a comin'! Late start for the grass . . .

We are on day wtwo of sunny and warmer weather here.. I think it got up into the 60's yesterday which is a bit above average.. Today is only going to be in the 50's but that is about normal if not slightly above... We have rain forcasted a lot starting tomorrow, good now that the frost is out of the ground it should soak in good and might get the roads in better shape..

This isn't the way I had spring arriving today...the temp isn't all that bad, in the 60's, but we've got gusty winds of 40mph and more! It's the dang winds that make it chilly and not fun to be outside today.

The thought of warm maple syrup reallly sounds good poured over hot pancakes...mmmm good!

Yeah.. when we generally get warm weather in March and April it is accompanied by very high winds usually. Makes it terrible, you look outside, it is sunny and you can feel the warmth theorught he window... Than you look out a bit further to one of the plowed upfields and you have dust flying all over the place... A lof of this area is drained swampland so the silt that was at the bottom of the swamps can blow pretty good.

Thats what you get for not starting winter there until January or so
Hopefully the weather will straighten out for ya soon.
Its been not too bad here, but we still have a ton of snow on the ground that I don't think will leave until August  .
Got a chilly wind here today too.
At least here there is no frost in the ground, so what melts goes right in :-) .

Yup, I hear ya on the late start to winter here. But we, or at least I, sure liked that mild December and January, other than the mud it caused. Winter came on or about January 15th. And when it came, it came great guns!

I read somewhere recently that a cold February is followed by a cold March, and we SURE had a cold February. Blistering cold, it was.
