USDA confirms mad cow was from Texas

Animal "dead on arrival" to pet food plant

The cow verified positive last week for bovine spongiform encephalopathy was born and raised in the state of Texas, the Agriculture Department confirmed yesterday. Texas had been widely reported by the media as the BSE cow's state of origin, but due to a mix-up with the animal's tissue samples, the USDA did not validate those reports until last night, when it received DNA test results. Apparently the USDA is saying that the dead cow was suspect for BSE, therefore tested and then destroyed and not allowed to enter the pet feed supply.

I guess there are some downer animals they do not suspect have BSE, or else all those animals at the plant would be tested.
