Got to watch 2 bucks fighting while I was bow hunting late season in the snow one year. Pretty wild situation. Watched them fight for over an hour but they always stayed behind brush, just out of range (for me) or far out of range. But something I'll always remember.

I've seen evenly matched bovine bulls fight for half an afternoon. It's really disgusting if this happens while you are trying to move them someplace, and almost impossible to break up. One time many years ago, we had sprayed the cattle in the fall of the year with CoRal to kill grubs and lice. A couple horned Hereford bulls got in a fight on the way back to the pasture where they needed to go. We tried for twenty minutes to get our horses in between them to break up the fight. Finally Dad loped back to the pickup which was loaded with the 200 gallon high pressure sprayer. By spraying the bulls' faces, we finally were able to break up the fight and keep them separated to trail back to the pasture.

A cowdog might be handy for that. Realistically speaking, a guy only needs to break up a bull two or three times per year. Is is worth putting up with the dog for the remainder of the year, to only really need them a couple times? :wink:

A grille guard on an already beat up ranch pickup doesn't work too bad either. :wink:
