I don't think mine will work like that. Can't you latch it walk over open alley gate and then walk towards the cattle and make them go by you and into the alley? I don't really understand why it makes a big difference which end the gate hinges on.flyingS said:Your gate should always hinge opposite of your alley. The idea is that having the latch alley side allows you to close the gate and pressure cattle to walk buy you with the alley being their release.

enter at a corner? I have a12' wide gate so it will be open, that's why the hinged end thing confuses me.bverellen said:It simply doesn't work as well.
Ours had the gate hinge on the alley side. As the cattle enter the Bud Box, hit the back end and make the U-turn, they always first head to the corner where they entered, hesitate, and then turn and start to think about exiting via the alley.
This hesitation always causes problems, in particular if the cattle are very tame and have little to no flight zone.
With that said, I have used set=ups designed by Temple Grandin and think the cattle flow is waaaay smoother than a Bud-Box, albeit there is more construction involved.

gotcha. That's how I would like mine but not sure I can make it happen. My staging pen for the box is a hair small and hanging the gate that way may effect my ability to get them in that pen.bverellen said:Our gate for entry to the Bud Box hinged in one corner and latched in the opposing corner. The hinge was near the entry to the working ally.
In retrospect, it would have functioned better if the latch for the entry gate was near the working alley and the hinge was further away.
Clear as mud now? :???:
