I was fixin fence way down in the draws of a pasture yesterday morning. I came around the hillside and saw a big bull buffalo standing there. What a site! I've only been working for this ranch since October and I couldn't think of any neighbors that had buffalo. I called the boss from the radio and he couldn't believe it either.
The closest herd is about 15 miles away. Boss got on the phone with the buffalo outfit and they thought that it could be one of theirs.
Their pilot went up in the air that night and spotted it in about the same spot I saw it. They came over this morning to shoot it (it's too much to try and chase one of these things around and try to load it). I sooo wanted to pull that trigger but I don't know these folks too well so I didn't ask. The fella' pulling the trigger said they have a sweet spot right behind the ear. It was a little tense, at one point he started to charge. It got to about 75 yds and they finally put it down. It got up again and went another 25 yds or so and finally went down for good.
Here's some pics:
Here he is at about 200 yds:
Here's the guy from the buffalo outfit taking aim: (I had a great view!)
Walking up for the final shot (this thing is still alive):
Here's me with my trophy (I wish):

It was a fun time, even if I didn't get to shoot it! I'm glad I got my photo with it. Hope you enjoy the photos. These animals are an awesome creation!
