Seems like the more you try the worse it gets

Bought a new bull about 3 weeks ago to breed my heifers to. Got him home and been keeping him up in lot till time to turn out.

Turned him out yesterday. Went to check on him this morning and 3 heifers standing in heat and he is at feed bunk. Walked him over to them and he sniffs one and walks away. Not interested at all.

Locked him in catch pen with the three heifers and hope he figures out he is a bull before dark.

I bought a char bull once for $4000 that turned out to be more interested in other bulls than he was in cows  Thats when I made the switch to Limo and Angus bulls.

Maybe he's a lov'em-and-leav'em type guy! Maybe he actually bred them when you weren't around, did it once, and knew by the smell of the heifer that he got the job done. We had a hereford that would do that, breed them once and move on to find the next one. The cow would be in heat all day, I'd be having a hissy-fit about the "dud" bull, but come the following spring, all these little hereford calves would be hitting the ground. And I knew they were his because the other bull out with him was a red factor Simm, which we hardly got a calf off because the hereford was doing his job.

Or, your bull is gay! :) Just kidding!

Had big beautiful Angus bull once. Swore he was just a useless leather bag....slept under the tree....ignored any cows in heat!!!

Wellll...had a 100% preg ck that year and 100% calving with NO problems. He was a sly bugger but he got the job done.

I'd also go over...wake him up....halter him and lead him over to the cows. He'd basically ' yawn'...and drag me back to his tree where I took off the rope and cussed him as I walked back to the barn !

Guess he showed me!!

Had a bull once that was the same way as a yearling.. He would never jump a cow in front of me. Never. The bread ratio was fine in the end but it gets stranger. We took him to get collected as the breeder wanted a few straws from him and we though about collecting him to AI with so we would have a completely uniform set of calves (Decided that I didn't like him THAT much)..
Well, at the center he would go to jump the teaser steer or a heifer in heat but as soon as they took a step torwards them he would stop mid jump... It got to the point that he was so freaked out by people that even shocking him didn't work the way it usually would..

I scratched my head and kept him around and he is one of the more aggressive breeders I had this last season. Always chasing cows and heifers, beating off the other bulls (Heck, they were so intimidated by him he barely had to fight)... The only thing I can figure is he is finally the top bull soically andn doesn't care that some puny human is watching him.

Well the char bull I owned he was a yearling and we had him in with 25 cows come mid summer when I was very sceptical of him doing his job we preg tested cows and found he had only got two in calf.

Went by the lot late this afternoon and the heifers were on one side and bull was on other. One of the heifers were totin her tail so hope he is doing his job.

If this is his normal speed he will never work hisself to death. Ought to breed lots of cows and stay fat.

This wouldn't bother me so much if older bull, but most young bulls will worry cows to death.

I'm sure you all have heard the joke about the old bull and the young bull?
They were talking one day and the young bull says to the old bull, "why don't we run over the hill and breed one of those heifers today?"

The old bull replied, "why don't we walk over the hill and breed them all?" :P :D

maybe you need to have your bull watch the Shakira porn movie that gets posted on here every now and then!

Been watchin my Bull close last few day and definatly getting better.

Sunday he was staying with bulling heifers but didn't see him ride any.

Monday he was mounting heifers.

This morning saw him breed heifer for sure.

Guess he was just a little bashful at first. Think it's gonna be OK now.

It will be fine if you dont mind calveing in july, august and september if they keep bulling maybe he's sterile I'd at least get him semen checked but if he were mine I would have replaced him long ago.

Well...if he's only been in since last Friday...he's just now getting to know the gals names !!!

He's over the " meet & greet" stage now. You'll see some action soon!

Maybe he's just a bit more formal than most bulls and likes some small talk and a couple of dates first!!!
