I sorted my final group today and got the bulls hauled out, glad to be done with these jobs for the summer.
Ready to sort - last group of cows, heifers etc
A pure Luing cow. Slick as an Angus in summer.
Same cow last winter at -40C
Junior herd bull ready to work - out of my 23 year old cow.
Got his cow/heifer group sorted and off to pastures new.
Senior herd sire - Sire of the previous bull. 7 year old, big gentle fella.
Not a bad hind quarter either.
He's off to work in a swamp quarter we are renting.
This pasture we are renting is right in the middle of the oil/gas patch.
The new recruit - not my favorite Luing bull but he is a rare opportunity to diversify our bloodlines in a different direction.
Due to poor moisture we have sold 25 head of first calf and yearling heifers to a lady wanting to set up a small herd. Got a good price, shipping them now but picking up the calves at weaning. I think it's a win-win deal in a dry year.
And finally (taken with the extra long zoom)  - managed to capture this nutter today - first time in 6 months we have got her anywhere near the corrals. She will stay in a big grass corral now until we ship her in the fall. I thought NR might want to buy her for his rodeo string - breed her EXT and I'm sure she would turn in a champion, lol. Notice where the hair swirl is on this animal face - they say that if it is above the eyes they are likely to be wild. Looks like it would make a good target though
