Aren't they having a blast? I really laughed at the calf in the far
left hand side of the first picture. He's almost standing on his head!!!

At the rate those babies are growing, they'll be making the tag look small in no time . I like BIG tags too Ned Jr. :wink:. Nice healthy calves!

I counted 12 6050 calves so far. 9 of them are heifers. I really like them especially the heifer calves. I have around 30 175 calves so far. I like his calves a lot. He throws more pigment than any bull I've ever used. They come small then they really seem to grow well.

I guess I get so use to them I don't even notice they're big tags anymore. They do seem to grow into them and those tags will stay with them for life, or at least until they get them caught on something.

I guess I get so use to them I don't even notice they're big tags anymore. They do seem to grow into them and those tags will stay with them for life, or at least until they get them caught on something.

I agree. I use the biggest tags I can get, at least on the heifers. I like to be able to read 'em from a distance. Big brands are a good idea too :wink:

Isn't that the truth :roll:. I like them since I don't have to mess around with backings, but they do have their drawbacks. A few years ago, my Z tags seemed to be eroding the ears. Not around the hole, but on the underside of the ear. My friend had the same issue. Haven't had it happen since.

I have a problem getting the Z tag into soft eared new born. When the new born are wet the tag Z freeze rots out the ear making calves look horrible.
When I get figured out how to send in photos I would like to see how these calves down here grow compared to the western calves my guess western calves will be at least 60 pounds heavier maybe 100. Even though many of had a wet winter the quality of the hay out there looks like has already given the western calves a good start even with the harsh winter. We have been using western and northern bulls for years.

My biggest gripe about the Z tags are the no backings! For years I used Allflex and bought different color buttons for different breeding pastures. That way I always could tell what breeding the calf was by the button color. Then Allflex went with pastel colors and I switched to Z, but this year I am using some Temple Tags. We will see how they hold a number, that might well be my choice from now on.

On subject, great pictures of great calves Ned. Glad to see you got a little wet stuff.
