Calf Prices?

Captive supply is how packers stay in the black, in my opinion. If they don't get cattle bought at a price that they can make money with they pull from their own supplies and wait until next week and try again. After a few weeks, the price will drop a bit and they'll be back buying up what they can get while they're cheap. Cattle feeders make money when packers get caught short with their own supplies, which ain't all that often.

Yep and gets less and less often when you have one socalled cattlemans group spending $ millions of dollars lobbying for the packers and to allow more concentration in the industry and against the Packer Ownership Ban... :(

NMCowboy, if I had a sarcastic icon I would have added it behind my post. The packers have us right where they want.

I knew what you meant :)

They've got us by the tender bits and nobody in the Gubmint has got enough common sense or integrity to either know what to do about it or get it done.

Send some of that rain down this way. I could use an inch or 2.

I'd love to send some rain your way but we could use a little shower ourselves. The corn around me is the best Ive seen in Iowa in my short trips this year. Last year we were in a drought but this year things look good.

Definitely still some optimism and some money out there...I didn't make it to yesterdays sale at Glasgow Stockyards - but it sounds like the pairs were hot.....
What a little rain and green grass won't do...

1St Calf Heifer Pairs $1375/Pair
3 To 6 Year Old Pairs $1375-$1535/Pr.

Wow!! The pair market was on fire this week! A house full of buyers for 120 mostly young pairs. Even with high corn prices, and uncertainty for fall calf prices, there was a big demand for these young pairs. Thanks to everyone who came in to bid on this nice offering.

well i haven't been here for awhile. but my husband and me just bought 14 heifers for $550 each some baldies, some pure black, and some white and you can't tell him it wasn't a good deal. we got them from our neighbor. the kids have started naming them already the are really enjoying our little farm.
