Calf Problem..PICS

We have a simm cross bull calf that has scours???????? We've had calves with scours before but it was normally right after they were born. this calf is 1.5 months old...and the scours are white...I also saw that there is a thing as "white scours" and I think or I guess that's what he has but they said that the calves get it right after they are born so.....????? When he goes it comes out white/grey and then after it sits for a while it stays white until you 'mess' with it and then underneath it is yellow.... any help would be appreciated....we haven't taken his temp yet and he is not 'himself' he's really not playing with the other calves much but he is eatting good and stays with them but he just looks kinda 'sad'

Good healthy calf manure, not anything I'd worry about - just a calf getting adequate milk off fresh grass. If he really is off color I would suspect something else is wrong - doesn't look bad in the picture though.
 
When it's just a faint white stain in the grass it's more serious. Or if there's blood in it. Calf looks to be good and healthy.

We actually found what I belive to be a 'faint white stain' actually it was more like a trail but me and my sis almost stepped in it because it was almost clear and white/grey looking and it was very sticky and runny at the same time? and also had some stringy-ness to it in some places....???? sorry if I'm not making any sense here..
 
If its bothering you and you feel something is wrong. 10cc-15cc Polyflex for 3 days. Adjust for weight.
Always trust your gut. You KNOW your animals and when they are not right. Its better to treat and nothing happen and not treat and they get sicker and/or die.
 
If they aren't dehydrated and I can catch them, I give them 2 Calfspan bolices (sulpha somethin'orother) and about 5cc of penicillin orally and about 10 im. Usually straightens them right out.

First thing you need to do is take his temp. Then you can treat accordingly. Also if he is kind of lethargic you should give him electrolytes bottle him or tube him to keep his PH level in check..

If he has an elevated temp or under normal treat with a good antibiotic (trivetrin, excenel etc.). If not monitor him and continue with the electrolytes as necessary.

It could be just a case of a little too much green grass and moms milk is probably richer from the lush grass as well..

Rotavirus? Seldom kills them unless they get too dehydrated. They will look tough for a week or two. Move them to fresh grass if you can.
 
As long as he's not really sick and still feels like eating, I wouldn't worry about it if he was mine. I see a lot of that this time of year with calves that same age on heavy-milking cows. A lot of times it will even be a lot thinner than what you've pictured. I've never treated one and I've never lost one, either.
 
When we see this starting and ' think' we need to do' something'....we catch'em up and dose'em with about a half bottle of Maalox.

Works like a charm!!!
