Yesterday at Mobridge Livestock several of our customers sold their calves. It was a pretty good show. Below are some photos of how the day went. $780 for some 600 pounders, either those are girls someone is taking home to make into mammas or someone is real optimistic on the fat market and pessimistic on the grain market

What is current COG in your area? What kind of premiums is there on the natural market for finished animals? Looks like your customers should have some change in their pockets to use to upgrade their bulls next spring.

Those were all steers calves.

Cost pf gain all depends on who it is. Lots of farmer feeders who have a pile of silage that needs fed, figure their cost of gain cheeper than the feedlot who has to buy all their feed. Some guys don't figure a yardage fee if they own the cattle, so it is different for everyone.

We are hooked up with a feedlot that feeds only natural cattle. All the Red Angus cattle go through Meyer, and if they have the Red Angus Source and Age Tag, Meyer will give $15 per tagged calf over and above and Source and Age and Natural premium.

I am not sure how the other buyers maket their calves but this is how our natural calves will go. We partnered on the Hollenbeck calves with this lot.
