Looking at the cows from the gate.

Snows too deep to use my 4 wheeler crossover. (I should probably tighten that wire sometime.)

My version of a good horse. A 4 legged one would be handy today.

Staying out of the wind.

Different view

Pretty tame heifer

MMMM lunch

Its much nicer in here

view from inside the calving pen

Looking across the yard

Snowed about 15 inches so far. Its hard to see where you can and can't drive.

We are in south central north dakota along the SD border. Last weeks blizzard came mostly as rain followed by about 2 inches of snow. Under this snow is a lot of mud. It will look nice and green here when the weather warms up.

I wrote this out because it made me grin:

"We are in SOUTH CENTRAL NORTH Dakota along the SOUTH Dakota border".

You have almost as many directions there as you have snow in the yard!

Take care

Gotta love it huh, Porter??

Looks like you have everything under control though. I wish I had your tree belt.

It should be winding down here through the night, but the temps aren't going to rebound much all week. I did look at the accuweather 15 day forecast and that brightened my day a little bit. 60 degrees on April 10th. I know that's almost two weeks away, but it's something to look foreward to!

Our weather shows 50 degrees by Friday or Saturday.
I can hardly wait. One of the neighbors called to see how
we were faring (two old people, ya know   :P )
and she said about the storm, "We'll it's good moisture to which
I replied, "I'll appreciate it in a couple of weeks."

Mr. FH got his 4 wheeler high centered, too---

I'm going to hold you to that forecast Mr. Doolittle, that's the day that I expect my heifers will start. Every one has an AI baby in her so it's going to be fast and furious. :D

Yikes, you're sure getting the snow . It's been a blizzard most of the day here with an awful windchill :?. It looks like you've got a great set-up for calving. Your cows look good. Keep us posted, and good luck :D.

Man oh man, when is enough enough with old man winter? Two raging blizzards in a week during the height of calving season for you folks...ugh, I hope for the best for all of you. Not to mention all of the flooding headaches in North Dakota.

My neck of the woods had a few snowflakes over the weekend, but thankfully nothing major.

Wind is still blowing the snow around here. Hope the weather man is right and it slows down by morning. Hard to tell how much snow we have had. I would guess 5-6 inches. Have plenty of snow drifts again.

Nearly 18 inches in Bismarck and a foot at the ranch at Timber Lake. We haven't had a moisture start like thhis in several years. Once it gets nice, their will be some very good grass. :)

Porter---I think I am looking out my kitchen window at your pics. I, too, am in southcentral north Dakota along the SD border, SE of Bismarck about 100 miles. The wind switch to the north last evening really socked things in. Calves are holding up pretty well, but do need sunshine, and a break in the wind. Sounds like itr should break by noon today, can't wait. Ddi anybody hear if Bismarck broke their all-time snowfall record? They needed 8 inches as of Monday morning.

Nice pictures, porter. It's been quite a March for calving. The late calving boys are in the driver's seat this year, so I hope they are enjoying laughing at the rest of us. :-)

Don't you go jinxin' things now Soapweed, it ain't over till it's over.

this flat out stinks...i havent seen snow like this for a good ten years or so...cows and calves were bunched up at end of pasture and no wind break for them....due to flooding they didnt wanna cross some water to get up to the wind break and calf shelters...i took some bales out there to hopefully let those calves get out outta the wind...there were about 6 young ones standing by themselves when i fed this morning but the other ones followed momma to the hay...as far as i can see i havent lost any yet but theres a good 2 feet of snow in out there so who knows if there are any under the snow...i checked them at about midnight last nite and didnt see anything...went out to check them at 2 but couldnt even make it out there and dint want to get stranded in this crap....flooding and late blizzard like this are my worst fear for calving and sure enough been going through both for 2 weeks now...this has been a challenging year...but all i can do is keep trying even tho its not the most fun thing
