Location
NE WY at the foot of the Big Horn mountains
I wish to apologize ahead of time as I zoomed a lot of pictures up to 24X with my camera, making them not as sharp as I would have liked.

This was the lake where our friends live near Glennallen, AK.

Kirk and Mr. FH taking off: (Kirk is the pilot, of course)

Caribou

We stayed one night here. It was rip-off... :p

This picture isn't very clear. I took a lot of them through the
front window of the vehicle. There were a lot of buffalo in spots.

YUKON RIVER. We stayed an extra day in Whitehorse, YT to take a
boat ride down the Yukon and they cancelled the trip. That was really
disappointing to me. The Yukon River is really beautiful.

They can and do grow flowers everywhere in both Canada and Alaska

Ahhh, the beauty of the mountains

I think this was Muncho Lake. (maybe

Purple Heart Trail in Alaska

Not very good cow country. :p

Bed and Breakfast at Tok, Alaska which was quite charming.

Glacier on the way to Valdez

Cleaning the Silver Salmon we caught at Valdez.
I have pictures of being in the boat, but they were emailed to me
and I have to see how to post them.
This is Mr. FH and our friend, Kirk, who we stayed with. I don't know
who the fella on the phone is...

211.jpg

Nice family in Alaska who loaned Kirk their boat to take us
fishing. This is what ATV's in Alaska look like.

212.jpg

More flowers. This was a fountain.

These are 'fish traps'. We knew nothing about these. A Russian designed
them in order to catch enough fish to last all winter. Some catch
150 fish A DAY we were told.

226.jpg

Fish trap from another angle. I think this was the Copper River.
They line them up and catch a boatload of fish. Some are live
traps and some aren't. The ones that aren't have to be checked often.
Some of these were taken 24X zoom, making them a bit blurry.

So many beautiful mountains:
247.jpg

Blazing glory. Notice the different color on the mountain in the back.
That's buckbrush we learned.

261.jpg

I tried to take shots with something in them to get the perspective
of how massive the mountains were.

More to come later...I hope I haven't bored anyone. I took
700 pictures and it is hard to know what ones to select. I just
tried to give a cross-section here.

Thanks for viewing.

I had forgotten the wavey lines caused by frost heaves. Anchorage to Valdez is a long way at 35 mph, which was the top speed trucks were alowed to travel in the spring when the frost was going out. Really enjoyed that trip. I was there during the pipline boom. Many of those locations were familiar. I've stayed in those cabins at Tok. "Ah, the beauty of the mountains" looks like it may have been taken above Valdez???

Thanks for the beautiful pictures!!!! You really captured the beauty and greatness of Alaska. I hope to go there sometime. Keep the pics coming.

You know that pictures are pretty good when they make you wanna go there and see for yourself if they are real! And I wanna go there now. Always did have a strong hankering to go see that part of the country.

:agree:

Great pics FH. I love that fence in #2. I think the flowers in the gold pan are pretty cool too. :D
Keep the pictures coming! :D

Other than the bison and the fishtraps I can see everything else within two hours of home. :p

Thanks for the tour FH, we'll probably never get up that way as would like to see warm country as a change for us.

Keep them coming. :D

thanks FH, they're good, like the way they painted the alleyway on the building too

Awesome pics FH, it really makes me appreciate my back yard that much more :) I actually wouldn't mind seeing all 700 of them :D
That's not Muncho Lake, that lake looks to be awfully high up with no trees on the surrounding hills.
Keep the pics coming!

Thanks for posting your pictures, FH

I really like the one of the Yukon River. The one of Whitehorse is interesting, Then the last one is good too.

I should have explained...that one of Whitehorse is painted buildings...
kind of a mural type, but I thought it was interesting.

Whitehorse was the most expensive place we stayed. It was
a very nice town, tho. I was just so bummed that we didn't get to
go on the river trip after we stayed an extra day to do so.
Mr. FH got a haircut there....$28.00!!!!!!

Thanks everyone for your nice comments. After I said Muncho Lake,
Silver, I didn't think that was correct. Muncho Lake the water
is really green from the oxidizing of copper. Would that one be
Destruction Bay, perhaps? That's the trouble, it's hard to remember
where you were exactly. I did put the date on some, and that helped
because I could look back and see where we were on that date.
But something happened and the dates were no longer there and
I guess I didn't notice...

I do have some more that might be interesting, so I will post more
when I get the time. But I'll do it soon. Thanks again for your interest.

WOW..... What beautiful pictures. Makes one feel like we were on the trip with you. Notice how red the cariboo's horns were. I love seeing those great fall colors. It is hard to believe that the alley is just a painted one. I wonder how many have tried to turn down it?
Keep the pictures coming.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I was worried that the pictures would just bore people if I posted too many. I will post more.

My one regret is that I didn't get a picture of the wormwood fence
in GCreeks country. They wooden and each section is at an
angle with the next section. They are made in rocky country so
the ranchers don't have to dig holes to build fence. I've seen them
around Jackson Hole and in SW Montana, but these were different.
I just could never get a good shot of them to show how they
really looked. Maybe Gcreek can take a picture and post it of them.
Really neat looking fence.

You'll just have to come back. :D
