If the Japanese officials say they won't trade with the US until we resume trade with Canada, then why doesn't Japan just go buy meat from Canada?

It is all a big lie!!

The reason Japan still won't trade with us is because we are still importing meat from Canada, and won't label it!

No its more likely to be that the U.s won,t take Japanese beef even with a test..

and you demand they take u.s beef without a test.

Think about that...

frenchie- Why won't the Japanese take Canadian beef? Boats sail out of Canada to Japan as well as the US- or does Canadian beef need the USDA stamp in order to sell it?

Probably the same reason they don,t take U.S beef Oldtimer..a double standard..

Canada has never needed t o ride on your coat tails...and just so you know...I have no problem with Cdn beef labelled as such...Its not Canada,s fault that the U.S.D.A puts its stamp on it.. it was labelled Cdn beef when it left here.

Looks to me as if they are guilty because they share a border with someone that has FMD

That's not true.

We could source verify U.S. born and raised cattle today but Japan still isn't buying it.

Japan won't trade with Canada or the US simply because neither comply with Japanese requirements. And to this point we refuse to comply.
It is extremely small minded to think that the Japanese would differentiate between our two countries in this matter. They can see it has been one integrated market for as long as anyone can remember. What exactly is the difference? We could bicker about that endlessly to no-ones benefit.
I think the quickest way to get the Japanese market back is for us to quit bickering over who's meat is safer and make a united front. The Japanese can have no respect for mental midgets like Leo McDonnell and his like. All they are doing is slowing the process down.
